I thought dogs get their periods when they're 6 mos old. After about 3 weeks after her "period" is over, should I have her spayed or wait until she's 6 mos old?

If you are sure about the age of your dog, it's unlikely that she is in heat at four months old. It sounds like your dog may have a bladder infection. (cystitis) Is she having problems urninating....maybe straining to pee? She will need to see a vet.

Yes she was on heat. Get her spayed NOW she can get pregnant (which at that age would kill her) and the younger they are the easier they recover and it also reduces their risk of mammary cancer later on. You may need to look around for a vet that does early/juvenile desexing.

It is not uncommon for a dog to have its first season at 4 mos. of age...If you are going to spay her, wait two months, then have it done. (Enlargement of womb & ovaries will have waned by then & again be back to normal size.) Risks to her health will lessen.

that happened to our cat, im not sure if its the same thing, but it happend when she was about 4 months old, and the vet told us it was a urinary tract infection, and the only thing you can do is give them more water to try and flush the bad stuff out

Sounds like it....but I'd ask your vet this question. Sorry I couldn't be of much help on this one.

It could be her 'period' or it could be a medical problem. You should probably consult your vet.
