Lots of Americans supported the IRA for many years which lead to the deaths of many british soldiers, women and children. Maybe it's just karma.

If everyone would just calm down for a moment and stop calling the guys names, you may just see that he is employing a subtle technique called irony to make a point.

He is not suggesting that funding terrorists to kill Americans is right at all.

The point that he is making, and unfortunately some of you in your rantings have proved him to be right, is that SOME americans particularly in New York and Boston did think it was a good thing to finance the IRA.

Judging by some of your answers you still belive it was the right thing to do.

Also judging by your answers you have no idea of the reality of the situation in Northern Ireland, and that your dollars went to buy explosives which killed many many more innocent Irish and British CIVILIANS, than ever they did damage to the British Army.

You see the IRA were not actually very good operationally and so soft civilian targets were the norm.

Also answers here made them out to be patriotic good old Irish boys fighting for a cause. The reality of the situation is that most of them had a good deal in common with Al Queda. Brainwashed to hate from birth and with the morals and standards of a snake.

Anyhow, we are all on the same side now against a much bigger enemy so can we all please stop the silly name calling and defensiveness and move on?

Mate what a sore subject you've just touched on. The IRA gained a huge amount of financial support from Anglo Irish Americans. The propergander the IRA used at the time helped to kill British soldiers. When the true horror of terrorism struck the USA finally that was removed. If one small piece of good can come from 9/11 its that America woke up to the real threat of terrorism.

Every thing is wrong with your statement, two wrongs do not make a right.

However not all American just a very small group of small minded idiots who hold on to Irish roots of up to five generation in the past. True lots of the money raised went to the IRA who turn it into weapons and Kill women, children, and members of the armed forces.

Interestingly after 911 the US woke up to this and order the banning of this type of aid, plus stopping the raising of aid from Basque nationals living in Philadelphia to the terrorist of Spain.

It had to take a major terrorist attack on the US for America to change it attitude, and then Bush insulting declaring a World War against Terrorism like none of us have been in one for over 30 years

It depends on what you mean by Terrorist. I remember a group of school children were blown up by an IRA bomb at Christmas time outside the tower of London. The Irish American community still funded the IRA. The IRA were not terrorists (according to the Irish Americans) no matter how many people they murdered or maimed. They were freedom fighters. Why anyone in America should believe, or try to justify, that it was acceptable to kill British civilians with weapons they supplied when they would not tolerate it in America is unbelievable. Abuse will not change history - denial merely exacerbates the inexcusable.

The IRA tactics were exported around the World. Now when the word Terrorist is used to others they are freedom fighters or even religious martyrs. The use of the word terrorist is a form of abuse, but is usually applied to groups who use stealth and deception to kill and maim civilians - rather as the IRA used to.

No your right. Americans mostly Irish decent did support the IRA for years, and some were Vietnam Veterans. We as humans support ideology, mostly the ones we believe in, or the ones that bring some satisfaction into our lives. As Patriots in early America, we used tactics against the British Army that was classified as "Barbaric", and we were even considered "terrorist" at one time. Things have changed, causes have changed, and terrorism has gone well past ideology but to mass murder of civilians throughout the world. Finance your family, loved ones, and yourself and let others spend their money on a worthless cause.

Materially supporting the enemies of your country is called treason. The enemies of your country are those killing your fellow citizens. If you want to protest the war speak to those in power, in your country don't send money for arms or even food to those who are killing your own countrymen. This is treason and I think traitors should be hung. The money that was sent to the IRA in a misguided sense of loyalty to Ireland did not lead to attacks on US soldiers or citizens and so was simply stupid not treasonous.

If someone give money knowing inside he help to kill then that someone take some responsibility of death of victims. Money is a soulless thing. The owners matter. Its not easy to use money in good tasks and we are mostly mistaken to who give them. IRA was trying to liberate their country. It was also mostly British fault that they didn't free them without fight. I understand if supporting IRA Americans had good intentions but it would be better if Ireland disconnected by a diplomatic achievement without blood split and unnecessary deaths.

I see your point but think you will find after Timothy McVeigh and 9/11 the funding of the IRA ended!

It's just a shame that it took so long for America to realise just how being Bombed in your home towns felt! I saw first hand in Manchester what Jerry Adams' fund raising trips to the US achieved.

So shall we now all agree that it was wrong and move on?

I agree some thing pissed them off way previously the Pentagon attacks and they made their aspect. there is jsut no negotiating with a terrorist which with the aid of my defintion is someone or team of offended human beings at a warfare of words with their authorities. all of us stay with the aid of a few order and if one side loses then so be it. you in hardship-free words cant go round killing all of us because you're in my opinion pissed that issues arent going your way. Thats no longer the way social order works. i'm mad at those particular terrorists because there is not any end to their disagreements religiously. clone of one dude in texas mind washed all those human beings in Waco, those human beings carry their faith to that intense and cowardness to seduce their own human beings to do those acts. As an American we cant understand a holy warfare, thats why i think undesirable Bush even despatched them up there. Its retarded. purely as they fought previously we were given there, they'll strive against lengthy after we are gone. Thats purely all they ought to stay for.
