IDF stands for Israeli Defense Force. It is just the name of the branch and has nothing at all to do with the strategy used. We do the same thing, such as calling our military the Department of Defense, and we sometimes invade too.

In this case, the IDF is ACTUALLY a defensive force since Israel was attacked on its own soil first. They have retaliated by moving into the area that was used by the invaders for a base. This is quite in line with a defense force, because there is some truth to the old saying that the best defense can be a good offense (and vice versa).

They speak Hebrew in Israel, actually. Yiddish is German, or another language mixed with Hebrew. The Israelis believe they are invading in defence. It's like that pre-emptive strike thing that the US started in Iraq a couple of years ago. Nice precedent we set, isn't it?

The Jews and Arabs have been at each others throats since there were Jews and Arabs. Don't hammer the Israeli's because they do it better, especially after being provoked.
