Because cats have small oil glands in their head and they rub their head on something to release these oils. This is a subtle way of marking their territory.

The cat's mouth has scent glands, they contain pheremones. In the wild, cats would use them to mark their way to good hunting spots, fresh water etc and back home, a bit like Hansel & Gretel dropping breadcrumbs. Now cats just do it to mark their way around the house, much nicer than the alternative of peeing on everything lol

I was just wondering the same thing and I began to read around online about it! Plus my cat is pregnant and seems to be doing it a lot more now. ^_^

But, anyway. They do it because when cats find something they like, or something that makes them happy, they tend to mark there territory. It's also a way of showing you that they would like your attention.

Hope this answers your question ^_^

Actually cats are not rubbing their nose, it is their whiskers. For any better answer ask the cat, she will probably just ignore you anyway.

Observe carefully. It is not the nose but the sides of the cheeks that the cat is rubbing against you and other objects, doorways, cabinet doors (where the food is kept!) etc. He is claiming his territory.

Thank goodness our house cats aren't as prone to using their urine as their wild cousins do.

It's the cat's way of claiming turf. They rub their facial scent glands onto what they are claiming.

So when the rub their faces on you, they are claiming you as theirs!

They go from their nose to their cheeks. On their cheeks is their "happy scent" - those glands emit the "happy" scent which they just want to leave all over the place.

I have heard they do that to smell things deeper. Their cheeks have the scent glands so that is why they rub their cheeks on things to put their scent on it.
