IUD, but I am so scared. Are they too painful? I am taking Tegretol for my epilepsy and the Dr. said that's the only thing that works for me.

When I was taking Tegretol my doctor suggested a higher estrogen birth control pill to compensate for the Tegretol's lowering of the levels of hormones. It didn't work for me because the high estrogen gave me a yeast infection, but it's something to consider.

There are other forms of barrier birth control, the diaphragm or cervical cap combined with spermicide is pretty effective but best if you are in a committed monogamous relationship.

I have never had an IUD for religious reasons (I believe life begins at conception and one of the ways the IUD prevents pregnancy is by keeping a fertilized egg from implanting). I've heard opinions from people loving them to hating them, but they are pretty effective.

I've had my IUD for about 5 months. It didn't hurt to have it placed, but I had really bad cramping and bleeding for about a month and a half afterward. But no periods since then. Now I can't tell I have it.
