It is their job to investigate what might be crimes. It's their job to be suspicious of people. I was recently involved in something that I am being charged with. Three times I gave verbal statements, twice I had to write it all out.
I think they're looking to see if my story changes. If it did, it would probably increase their suspicions.

Just to see how you would go about saying them. If you answer a question when you're all nervous then they have reason to believe you are or have been up to something.

What do you expect them to ask you? Do you think a state trooper is going to pull you over and ask, "Excuse me sir, but do you know what the capital of Mongolia is?"

Matt has the right idea. Also, they are trying to get you to answer it wrong - thus proving you are lying.
