I have never EVER reccomended keeping birds, same species or not, in the same cage together if they are meant to be pets. This may pose these problems:

~The birds will "flock", and you will be voted off the island. Most likely they would rather be with each other then you.

~There will be territorial disputes, even with two birds that have been together since hatchlings. All birds need their own place to go, and having a cagemate means no alone time when tired or upset. Conures are also more apt to aggression, where as Cockatiels are much more congenial and passive. Conures find smaller birds like Cockatiels to be easy punching bags because they don't fight back easily, and most other birds find the crest of a Tiel to be fun to pluck.

~Even if there is no bloodshed, Conures can be rather possesive. Most of the time, they keep any other bird from eating or drinking, and may condemn it's cagemate to a painful death, even if there are more then two bowls of food and water available. This also goes for toys and perches, which will deprive the Cockatiel of enrichment needed for a healthy mentality, stresses them out and their feet will suffer, being driven to the bottom of the cage and forced to stay without proper use. Remember, the alpha bird is always on the highest perch, and Conures like to throw their weight around. There may also be fights that will break out over who gets your attention first when you open the cage.

Basicly, Conures can be rather abusive to other birds, even their own kind without proper, slow introductions. Being that it takes time for to birds to get accustomed to each other, two cages are needed. Since you cannot breed these birds, it's just logical to keep them in seperate cages.

If you have a Conure or a Cockatiel and want one or the other and cannot afford the cage, then you cannot afford the bird. It's not fair to either of the birds, or you.

It would be risky combining them in the same cage. I wouldn't do it. I would have them on a stand together where they can get away from each other. Now When I have raised baby Conures and Tiels they did stay in the same cage together and they got along fine. But if the birds are strangers to one another they may fight.

No, they need their own space. Conures have a different energy level than cockatiels.

I think that depends on the birds. If raised together from tiny babies yes, but as adults that depends on each bird and their tolerance of each other or personality. I persoanlly would try it in a supervised setting, but never unattended. And then even raised together like that upon puberty they may turn on each other wanting to be and mate with their own kind.

I'd say give them their own cages because conures are larger birds. However, you can prob let them out to have playtime together. Just make sure you supervise.
