He sometimes tells me that I'm great, and that he enjoys talking to me. We get on very well. We laugh a lot together, and have various in-jokes. We tend to think in the same way, and often say things the other was about to say. We're friends, but I can't tell if he likes me as more than a friend. He's a few years older than me, and he says he's shy and he doesn't meet many women in his normal life. I once told him that no one ever likes me as more than a friend and he said 'I'm sure there are those who care deeply but don't express it'. How much should I read into that? He's the sort of person who everyone gets on well with, and he has lots of friends, but I think he talks to me more than a lot of those, and we have more deep and meaningful conversations! I don't live near him, so I usually talk to him on MSN messenger. We talk on MSN quite a lot. Short of asking him (which I don't have the confidence to do), how can I tell what he thinks of me?

This is going to sound so bad but from my experience i think it wont do any harm.
set up a secret profile on myspace of someone-anyone!
start up a new msn account and just add him.
My girlfriend did this to me when we first met because she thought what we had was too perfect.She handed her self to me on a plate and i kept telling amanda aka my girlfriend NO NO NO NO
she turned around telling me that i was a loyal person and that i would be the best type of boyfriend.
Anyway thats what happened!
i guess you could just imply that the average human has 28 thousand days to live before dying and you would like to spend and share that time with him.sometimes you ladies have to make the move!

i think the only way to find out what is going on in his head is to ask him. i know it aint easy but u cant keep on assuming. just ask him straight on and if u too are as close as u say, then perhaps u can put this behind u if he denies having feelings for u. but from the instances u've talked abt m very sure he likes u, but hey,u'll never know. guys can sometimes give mixed signals, so ask him yeah

have you ever been in a dark room and cant see anything? well, naturally you want to see so you turn on the light and its clear. the only way to know or see whats going on is to take action and ask him . if he is a nice guy the worst that could happen is he will be flattered and he will let you down easy if not interested and if he shoots you down hard and hurts you he is not the guy for you any way. so its a win win situation...you win either way...sounds to me he is interested in you. you wont ever know unless you ask . bottom line
