My husband and I are moving from the north east to the west coast. We are going to take a uhaul to transport our things. THe only thing is I have a car that has 100,000 miles on it. The car is in good condition. Do you think it would be a good idea to drive the car behind the uhaul my husband would be driving? Or do you think it would be a good idea to hitch the car on the moving truck>

I am a little nervous about driving a trailer with a UHaul, but are there any ways to have the car and the uhaul on the same truck without a trialer?

Or should I ship the car down sepaeratly and drive the Uhaul with my husband?

Thank you for any suggestions that you may have at this time.

I would just get a car dolly and dolly it behind the uhaul. You can rent them where you rent the truck.

well the millage of some cars doesn't mean anything, I drive my crown Vic's to over 200k miles with out any problems, still in great shape when I sell them too.

I would be more worried about if your car can handle the trailer in question, if its that little tinny one uhall has then you should be ok. if its a large one its probably to much for almost all cars. Also what type of hitch will be used? is it a bumper hitch? they are not very good and are not made to pull heavy loads, if its a class II or class III hitch it will work. If you will have to go over mountains or threw the desert at all if your car is over loaded with to large of a trailer I bet you would kill it. check to see the towing capacity of the car in question and don't go more then 2/3's of that to be safe.

I would say get one of the large trucks, then get the car tow hitch for the uhall truck and pull the car. you can also pack the car up if your low on room in the uhall. you might want to also look into just having a moving company do all the moving for you, then you can drive in your car with just a few things, or even fly and have the company even bring the car. It will cost more but everything will be well taken care of and you wont have to do any of the lifting or packing lol

even if you still move by yourself most moving companys will still come and help you load and unload the truck, really saves on the back.

Get a uhaul truck & a trailer for your car. You sure don't want to drive your car behind a uhaul truck for 5000 miles or however long it is out there.

Best of luck to you! Have a happy and safe trip.

I would get a trailer with the Uhaul, and like some others have stated, will save on gas. Like you said, your Husband will be driving the Uhaul. So, how does he feel about a trailer on the back of that it? Would be saving a little bit of money I think.

Definitely use a hitch. Why pay for twice as much gas and tire both of you out twice as much. This way you can ride together and save the extra wear/tear on the car.

Drive seperatly. Expecially if you are nervous - it can lead to disaster. Also, you'll be worried about it all the time you are driving.
