God controls all time, "free" or otherwise. It is when you realize this that you want to give more to Him, because it doesn't feel like an obligation. You then do so out of joy, rather than guilt. Anything done as a result of joy is far better, and appreciated far more, than anything done as a result of guilt.
All God asks for is a 10% return. Time, money, etc.. it's all His anyway, and we won't get to keep any of it when we die, so why not give it back to Him? He rewards us for it in various ways too.. beautiful sunsets, peaceful homes, happy relationships, promotions at work, etc. It can be a hard one to get your head around, but the adage is true, "the more you give, the more you get." That is not to say that we should give for selfish reasons... And by the way, God is patient, He has all time to wait, so He would be happy with you spending 10 minutes, then maybe 20 a while later in life, then 30, and so on..
Look at it another way. God wants to have a relationship with us. A good relationship takes an investment. An investment of time. Because He wants this relationship, He'll build it on your time if that is how it has to be. Imagine though, that you meet someone, and begin to build a relationship with them. They are becoming your very best friend, the kind of person you could call any time of the day or night for any reason. You really enjoy spending time with this person, but they don't have much time for you, or it seems like they have to begrudgingly force themselves to spend time with you. Do you suppose in this manner you will become as close as you would if they had time for you whenever you wanted to see them?
God has time for us whenever we want, why can't we make time for Him whenever He wants? Involve God in ALL things, and you will have a happy and prosperous life. You will also build a very strong relationship with Him, which is what He wants and intends to have with all of us.

God doesnt want to 'control' all of your free time. He just wants you to spend time with Him each day. Youre supposed to treat God as if you would a friend that you have. Would you talk to them a few times a day, once a day, once a month?? Just think about it.
Also He doesnt want you to put other things in life ahead of Him. Meaning if youre spending ALL of your free time in front of the tv or computer screen (or any other activity) He probably doesnt like it.
Just remember these two things, you need to work on your friendship with God.. and if ALL of your free time is devoted to other things, theyve become your idol, because youre putting it before God.

God wants to be in the forefront of your mind at all times. Not just part of the time. Just because a Christian does not go about shouting and yelling they are a Christian doe not mean that God is not on their mind. Jesus said to go into your closed room and pray. Not to stand on the street corners and pray loudly. Jesus is never far from my mind, that is the way it is when you love.

God is actually in control of "All" of our time....If he controlled only
a 1 1/2 hr....block of time,we would be in trouble. God only wants
sincere praise/worhip from the heart. If it's not that? No amount of time is worth it to God

He wants total surrender. It's not a matter of control it's a matter of submitting to His Holy Spirit that lives in us..so that we can be used for His service. We probably won't be used to the fullest while we are still in the flesh ,although He does empower people for service for specific tasks. Its not a question of what he wants to control,Its a question of how much of
your life do you want to dedicate to God,doing his will, trying to help others to
come to an accurate knowledge of truth?God only wants of you what your capable of giving..Find the truth and the truth will set you free....
