I know how to delete the content of a header, but how do you eliminate it from a document. Because it is empty but still programmed, I can't bring my text up to the top of the page. I want it gone completely.

Have you deleted any extra line spaces in your header? Because the header space exists in a document whether you have text there on not. But if you have extra line spaces in your header, the body text of your document will be lower down on the page than you would like. An empty header will not harm your document, nor should it alter the space allotted for your body text. It is "always" there, invisible though it may be.

Go back into View, then Header and Footer, and see the amount of space your blank header is taking up. It should only be about a half inch. If it is larger than this, you need to just put your cursor in there and hit Backspace until you can't back up anymore. You should see the length of your header space decreasing as you do this. Then just hit Close in the Header and Footer bar, and your text should be back up to its initial top margin.

You may have a top margin problem, too. Go to File, then Page Setup, then click the Margins tab. If your top or bottom margins are more than 1 inch, this could be your problem. Reset the margins to 1".

Let me know if this doesn't help. I'll keep you on my watch list in case you add more details.

copy and paste ito a new document...it sucks...but it's better than figuring out what it is...or delete the header's contents, save, close, and reopen the document..it sohuld be gone then...I can't test...i don't have msoffice on this computer...or run regedit and open a bunch of folders...change the values in these folders, and save them...it makes you run faster or slower...depends which ones you change and how.
