Snoop Doggy Dogg,
I think the word brainwash is too strong of a word here. I don't know what the word is but something like "influence" or "convert" would be appropriate.
Probably they gave Christianity to the slaves for a few reasons.
1 They really believed it themselves and thought it would be right to share it with the slaves as well.
2 Christian people are usually more accepting of they're conditions. While they may still work to change bad situations, they will put up with bad conditions longer and accept it as part of God's plan. If they do ultimately resist, they do so peacefully as much as possible. Also Christians tend to be happier and happier people are more productive. So I supposed you could say it was "to keep them down" but I don't think that entirely accurate.
I get the sense you're hostile toward religion to some degree and probably think it's all just made up fantasy and illusion. You could be entirely right about that, I don't know.
What I do know is that there is also a lot of truth in Christianity. The principles that Jesus taught...treat others with love (even your enemies..which I almost hate to bring up because that opens up a whole nother squirming can of worms that is usually badly misunderstood. It's basically not having a hateful heart toward an enemy and hoping for the best for him/her. With a terrorist, for example, I can have a heart of love toward him and hope that he will become a better person, but at the same time I may have to kill him because his goal is to kill me), cultivate humility, giving of yourself, prayer and believing (having faith)....are all truths. All you have to do is practice these for a while and you'll find out for yourself. Humility is a prerequisite though...without humility you won't see the other truths.
With regard to your question, the point I'm trying to make is that, while I don't know the main motivation of whites in converting blacks to Christianity, there are many good things about the religion that are beneficial to anyone. Maybe whites felt guilty about slavery and thought if they at least convert the slaves to be Christians, they'd sort of "justify" slavery...because if they weren't slaves the blacks would be lost souls in Africa.
Probably they (the whites) just felt that it was the right thing to do. After all they taught their own children the same things.
If you're angry with white people (or anyone, for that matter) I recommend giving that up. The truth is people of all races have been screwing each other throughout history...white people were just better at it. By the way I don't think most of the slaves were stolen from Africa; they were purchased from African tribesman that sold members of another rival tribe to the Europeans. That doesn't make it right, but it illustrates further that whites don't have a monopoly on dispicable behavior.

I dont know what kind of a response you were trying to get , but without me taking this personal , all of these "religions" were brought here from different countries which if you pay attention when history was being taught , the force of religion is why settlers first started this country , next the facts of being stolen.....hmmm... slavery started in Africa by Africans before the english got involved and the tribes sold there P.O.W's to the English because they knew that if they were taken from the lands they wouldnt have to worry about killing them or the P.O.W trying to kill them, next would be that slavery has been abolished for many years and there are plenty of flights back there, but my suggestion is to thank god and your ancestors and for the Mistakes that were made and realize that you got it pretty good because the people in Africa are not Very happy because not everyone wants to be the SAME RELIGION , so they force this terrorism maybe you need to do some research before you open your mouth and spread hatred.

Are You kidding me!!!!!!!!!!! You uneducated fool. We didnt steal you. Your own people sold your ancestors to the slave runners. Not all White people are to blame for slavery. By the way I dont own any slaves and I dont see to much slavery around the US anymore. Oh Yeah thats right whites fought a civil war to free your ancestors and more whites died for that war than soldiers from any other american war. You poor souls if you want to see a group of people kept down look at the American Indians. Until then grow up realize that history from over a hundered years is dead and gone and shame on your parents for teaching to hate. It is a shame you give blacks a bad name. By the way if you feel kept down hears an idea. Educate yourself, better yourself, free yourself from your Racism thoughts and realize this if it were not for a lot of white people throughout history you would still be a slave or even worse in Africa killing each other over religions such as Muslim. Next time you see a white person thank them for your opportunities that you have!!!!!!!!! IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a silly question. None of us alive today was there either to brainwash or be brainwashed.
Why not read "Deeper Roots" by A. H. Quick, to get a balanced picture based on research.
Clearly some of the Christians thought they were helping the stolen ones ( like teaching them to read English or French if they couldnt read them before, so then they could read the Bible), Other white people used it in the same way they used it on their own oppressed people - to make them passive.

Well,I can't speak for the past ( no one in my ancestry ever owned a slave) but you are free to believe in any religion you want. Before you are brainwashed into thinking Islam is the religion of your African land, do a genealogy research first to see where you ancestors came from. What ever religion or folklore they practice should be yours. So, if they practiced Wazzahollilulu and sacrificed goats and cut off their ears, you should too. Good luck in your spiritual journey.

Ok. already You are asking a generation of people who haven't had anything to do with all that mess. I didn't steal any body. And I certainly haven't brainwashed anybody with religion, and by the way, since when are you down?

If one reads ample history, one will find that there were "Black Slave Owners", in the South. Not to mention that Africans kidnapped and sold other Africans into slavery.
"when you stole us from Africa?"
Pray tell, when were "You stolen" and "placed into slavery"?
The entire country would be interested in knowing.
Call Jesse Jackson. He surely will take you out of slavery.

um...i'm not white, but i certainly don't think this question is going to be met with mild answers...
white people may have tried to brainwash the slaves they brought over, but if the slaves had remained true to their heart, the attempted brainwashing wouldn't have been successful.
it's not like brainwashing was done with a machine that succeeded in every single slave...

wow... 'YOU WHITE PEOPLE"....? HEY! I'm white...and I don't fit in that 'cookie-cutter' you're using. & it's been my experience that YOU BLACK PEOPLE do not like the reference to "YOU PEOPLE"...so why are you saying it to caucacians.
(wow... that'll be my next question!).
Haven't you noticed that the "Anglo-Saxon-Christian"...are notorious for 'brainwashing' people with their religion? Read up on the missionaries in Hawaii... when 'they' came to the 'New' England states and REFORMED the "Native Americans"---they even FORCED them to CUT ALL THEIR HAIR OFF, wear little "Lord Fauntleroy' outfits to the Christian schools, etc.
Wow...it CRACKS me up how black people from Africa want to be called "Afro-Americans"...and the American-Indians want to be called "NATIVE-Americans...and the EAST-Indians want the moniker of "INDIANS" (all to themselves)---& yet,,, WHY
WHY don't we whities.. get called "Anglo-Saxons"....? WHY?
The answer is: Because WE DON'T WHINE AS MUCH ABOUT IT...!
And besides,,,,GUESS WHAT? If you haven't already figured it out...not ALL 'WHITES' are the same----I'm not a 'brainwasher'...! and I'm not a CHRISTIAN...! so, you know what I say.... I say get over yourself...
you and your "over"-sensitivities.
Ask about something worthwhile.
