Of course, you can keep your culture but do not ram it down our throats. I encourage you to maintain your culture.

Trigueñ* states:
" I believe if you were born in the United States of America you have a rite to vote. But if you do not vote or cannot vote you do not have the rite to say diddly squat. Leave your culture, society and language at home. My father was very strict about these things:
1.- No spanglish
2.- Speak only English in public
3.- You may speak Spanish at home.
END OF DISCUSSION. "

Now this is a TRUE American who is welcome with open arms.

I cannot believe the name calling and rejection of this gentleman and his father. Why is it that only pro illegals insult those who try to do things properly?

To me, people who speak a foreign language while out in public, are very RUDE!!!! If the situation were REVERSED, i would have enough COURTESY to speak in a language they understand!!!!! It's all about manners!!!!

First of all I am a female. I am an American of Mexican descent. I apologize for spelling right incorrectly. The reason I do not speak Spanish in public unless needed to, is because how many times have you been at the market or other public places and people of different cultures are speaking their language and you do not understand what they are saying, to me that is very incorrect and not polite. Now you have to understand that in the old days there was lots of racism and you had to be careful how you behaved. I was the main translator at my school because before there were no signs that said
SE HABLA ESPAÑOL. Sorry for any further misspellings.

What is all this "our" business? stop being a snob about being american. i am a white female. i grew up in the city (lowell, ma)with all kinds of races. then i moved to alton, nh where everyone is white and it made me sick. diversity is the most beautiful thing on the planet. look at us americans... we have no culture. telling someone they can't speak their own language is ignorant. in all this confusion you forget one thing. god is above everything. he made all of us to help eachother learn. the more you struggle the more you know. i was poor. i lived in an apartment with broken windows and cockroaches. but i had food and running water. the parts of mexico these people flee from are worse than anything an american could fathom. anyone who works as hard as they do to get to a better place has my respect. some of the immigrants will cause problems but most of them won't. americans need to take a stand against our redneck president and realize that these mexicans are people who are capable of living or dying. they need our help so they can get established here. then they will have children that will go to college and add to society. they are in a low point and need our help. why are you denying them help?

I agree with everything you said. I might add that it is impolite and rude to speak in a language other people around you don't understand.

I'll tell you what, he's cool with me as long as he promises to learn how to spell "right" instead of "rite." Other than that, he's more than welcome here.

America is about diversity. We have a special country in that EVERYONE who comes here came from some place else. We celebrate diversity. All through our history, one ethnic group has hated another: The Irish vs. the Italians, The blacks vs. the whites, etc. etc. etc. so let's stop the infighting and bigotry and celebrate each other's country. But it is EXTREMELY narrow minded and ignorant to say... listen you dang foreigner.. celebrate yer dang culture at home I don't wanna see it. Please... get a clue.

What a ridiculous question....You are saying no one can speak their native language in public? No one is ramming their culture down your throat, geez.....And how will you enforce such things?

You cannot have a democracy without diversity, that is the very nature of a democracy! Its called freedoms!
