You can't - sorry.

There are a lot of good answers here, which I've rated. I gave a poor rating to the inaccurate ones. A couple additional comments. Sevin dust is fine for *outside* only. Also a "premise spray" that you manually spray can take the place of all-out bombs. It's more difficult though, and if the reason you don't want to spray is because of poison, the premise spray does have that.

A correction to one answer: Fleas can live in carpets up to one year, not just 3 months. Other than that, excellent answer.

Also, I was told to use corn starch on baby kittens when we ran into a problem because of a tenant. Boric acid on floors is fine though.

Reconsider the bombing. And use a premise spray under your furniture. Coupled with Frontline Plus or Advantage, it's the fastest, best ways to get rid of fleas.

(By the way - vacuuming every day will pick up flea eggs before they hatch).

If you treat all the pets in the house with Advantage, and treat them ALL for at least THREE months, the problem will be gone.

The fleas spend very little time on the animal. They feed, hop off,and go and lay eggs. The eggs hatch and have to fine an animal to feed on soon so it can start the whole process over again. If the animals are treated, all new fleas will bite the animals and die, and soon the problem will be under control.

I work at a cat shelter, and we have to work with many elderly people in the community that have a flea problem and cannot have chemicals in the house. We treat with the Advantage and the problem goes away. You just have to treat every month for AT LEAST three months. Then the next year, you start treating in May and then you can treat all animals every 6 weeks and not have the problem in the first place!!!

Treat your pets with Advantage or Frontline. Buy a new flea collar and drop it into a new vacuum bag (flea powder or a cotton ball sprayed with flea killer works too) and vacuum thoroughly. Do the same thing daily for a week changing and disposing of the bag frequently. Additionally, put a shallow pan filled with water and a drop of dish soap under a night light. If that doesn't work you're going to have to bomb or call a pro.

First, confine your pets to a flea-free room. Usually bathrooms are good because there is nowhere for fleas to hide. Then sprinkle flea-killing powder, powdered laundry detergent, or borax on all your carpet and material-covered furniture and let it sit for about 20 minutes or so, then vacuum. Continue vacuuming every day for at least 2 weeks: That way you'll get any new fleas that hatch. Make sure to treat your pet and perhaps the yard too, in case there are fleas hiding there.

Good luck!

To be honest with you, no matter what solution anybody gives you.
You cant, these little things can lay 1000's of eggs every day.
And can stay dorment for 18 months.
You only need 1 egg or cucoon trapped in a crack, and a sence of food, your pet its out, and the process starts again.

Just bomb your house with BOB MARTIN or other quality flea product, and go out for the day with your pet.
Vax every day after a week give it another quick spray in the places around your carpet/ skirting board just to make sure.

Dont forget to treat your pet with flea shampoo

Get your pet a flea collar, every three months, and you should be HOUSE FLEA FREE.

Good Luck

If you are looking for a flea medication for your cat or dog, advantage or something like that is wonderfull, talk to your vet to see which one is best for you particular animal, if looking to get rid of the inside your house, try some powder you put on the floor and vaccum like carpet freshner, most pet stores will have that. Maybe even sprinkle some "Seven" dust outside around your house.

You can put boric acid (a powder) into all the carpets and baseboards, and push it in with a broom so it goes to the bottom of the carpet and under the baseboards.

You also have to sprinkle it on all "soft" items that fleas can hide in or make their beds in, like sofas etc, then wash bedding etc with ammonia to kill the eggs.

Leave the boric acid in for about 6 weeks so it kills the fleas that hatch from the eggs. It's harmless to everything but insects.

Sorry, but, you can't. You have to bug bomb it or have a professional exterminator come in to do it. Trust me, I've had dogs all my life.

And simply treating your pets will not make the bugs go away because they are living and breeding in your carpeting and furniture. Once you do get rid of them, treating your pets can prevent them from coming back.

Good luck!

That's about the only way. And you'll have to bomb it at least twice. First time kills the living fleas. Second time kills the ones that were only eggs the first time. Totally SUCKS, but necessary.
