Yes, your kitten should be eating kitten food until it is a year old. That will help remedy the situation.

We had a kitten who when we got her at five months could clear a room with a single foof. When we asked the vet about it she told us it was "normal for her, and her system was just maturing" .Our little flower grew out of it at about nine months. Until then we always knew where she was in the house!

First of all not ALL kittens have worms. I have raised hundreds and hundreds of kittens in my lifetime and rarely do we need to worm them. Food changes are always suspect with gassy kittens. Please don't listen to vet teches who don't know what the heck they are talking about. never treat an animal for a condition they might not even have. There are cat foods that are for sensitive stomachs and that often helps with gassy kitties. You can also mix the kitten kibble with the adult kibble so the kitten isn't eating straight adult food, which genrally has more fillers. Kittens can have upset digestion especially between 7 and 12 weeks as they are weaned and come off Mama's milk completely. They do afterall have immature digestiv e systems.

Your kitten's body is adjusting to new foods after having been weaned by its mother.

Please read the label on your older cat's food. The first three ingredients make up almost 90% of the food. If you feed food that has corn as two of those ingredients that means your food is around 60%. Corn is not a natural food for cats. It gives calories and barely any nutrition and is poorly processed by a cat whose natural diet is raw meat.

A diet of corn produces stinky poop, gas and a hungry cat! It is very fattening. You don't need to worry about that with a kitten and as it grows older and eats this poor food he can have problems.

If your kitten is three or four months old he would LOVE to have a raw chicken wing, chopped up into three to four pieces(depending if it has the tip or not), a SMALL amount of raw chicken liver, heart and gizzard (our supermarket packages these together). This is a wonderfully balanced diet for a cat (I'm sure your older cat will ignore it): lean muscle meat and bone in the wing, liver for vitamin A, taurine and other amino acids in the hearts and gizzards. Taurine is destroyed by heat in commercial foods and though they add powdered taurine to all cat foods, getting it "straight" from the source, just as it is better for you to eat fresh fruits and vegetables than trying to get them through processed pills.

Your chicken needs to be hormone and antibiotic free. Most supermarket chicken is nowadays and be sure to check just in case.

I would serve the kitten the raw wings, etc. three times a week for at least one of his meals and look to a better quality dry food without corn such as CA Natural (chicken and rice) Natural Balance's venison and pea. Prairie is a very pricey food and the quality if excellent.

I am sure you will have a less gassy, stinking kitten if you do these things.

If you feed you adult cat crappy food, then that is probably the cause. If the cat eats a good quality diet, it is probably not the cause. Has the kitten gone through the worming process?????? All kittens have worms, and that can cause gas, so if it has not been wormed, get that done!!!!!

Give her some plain yogurt and try to keep her out of the adult food until she's about a year old.
