Christians, Why should the dubious existence of a long dead, sandal-clad ignorant be relevant to us?

The primitive, nomad, superstitious tribes of Israel were conquered by one of the most glorious civilizations the world has ever seen. We actually still use many aspects of the Roman "Authoritas & Dignitas"... Laws and technology and emblems, and architecture. Why should we even give the Jews of antiquity the benefit of superior knowledge? Do you even remotely realize that it would be akin to say that the gypsies could produce a prophet and be revered for 2000 years hence. Put things in perspective and realize that your sacred lies are just wishful thinking that ease up your fear of dying.

Though I may not be qualified to answer the question as I am not a Christian, the tenets of Christianity stemming directly from Jesus of Nazarene have shaped Western culture more than the Romans have. To be ignorant to the fact that our history is intrinically tied to this "sandal-clad ignorant" would be an exercise in ignorance yourself mate. The same would be true of the Roman Empire. However, please be careful to note that it is extremely difficult to change a belief - and when the leader of the United States of America is as much of a Christian zealot as Billy Graham, it becomes very important to understand why he does the things that he does. It becomes important to argue over the fallacies of parliament or government tied with a religion. If for nothing else, the teachings of Jesus of Nazarene are important for this.
