I know that mormons can't date until they're 16, but how and WHY did this rule originate? I know it's only occasionally followed, but I want the church's point of veiw, and their reasons for why this rule exists.

its really a guideline, not a rule. Most teens are not mature enough to have a relationship until 16 or older. Some are not mature enough until the are in their 20 (you know who you are). Since we believe in sex after marrage and lifelong commitment (actually, evern after life we believe you are married), dating is not for "hooking up" ect. its finding a soulmate who shares the same values and ideas about the future as you. Only date boys/girls who you would like to marry, not just the cute, popular ones.

go look it up on the OFFICIAL website.. instead of anti Mormon websites... basically we don't date until we are sixteen because of our moral standards. the chances of immorality is about 5% where as if you date before you are sixteen then the chances are45%... if immorality is such a terrible sin. then isn't it logical that you should do anything to prevent it?

The mormon cult is all about control. Rules help keep that control over members. They don't have to have a reason behind them.
