My son did not sit up until 7 or 8mos. I figured out I was "cushioning him too much" In other words, give him a chance to feel the sensation of falling, that's how they build muscle in their backs. I would just put pillows all around and sit him in the floor, several times a day, when he falls, let him fall, and don't pick him up for awhile, either. This way he will learn independence. Good luck

All babies are different...I have three boys and they all did things at different times. If you are taking him to his regular check ups, the doctor will let you know if there is a need for concern. I wouldn't push it though, he will do it when he is ready. My 9 month old refused to sit...he kept toppling over until about 7 and a half months...he still doesn't sit much! I wouldn't worry....letting him do things on his own is the best advice that I ever got and now it is for you! Good Luck!

Call your pediatrician and make an appointment immediately. If there is something wrong, and that it is a high possiblity here, they will be able to guide you about what should be done. Most states have a free pre-school screening and therapy for children who may be behind schedule in development. And just perhaps, this baby is just slow in development because he has such a wonderful disposition that he's not trying to rush his infancy. Good luck, but do seek professional advise.

First of all your son is not seven months, he is six months and 9 days. Don't hurry him to much. Things will happen on there own. Does his roll over from back to front and front to back. Does he try to maneuver him self on the ground? These are the things he should be doing at 6 months.

Just let him develop at his own pace. My daughter sat up on her own at 6 months, and she is very advanced for her age now at 6yrs. That's only a month difference. Try not to stress too much. The doctor will probably ask you about his development and give you advice if it is a problem at his next checkup.

I think the worst thing that a new parent can do is panic and start worrying if their child isn't doing what "the books" say he should be doing at that age. Keep working with him, and he'll eventually get it. And relax. Every healthy child in history learns how to sit up, and yours will too.

every baby developes different, they usually start sitting up on their own between 6 and 8 months, you dont have anything to worry about right now, but if he doesnt start by about 8 1/2 months i would probably see someone about it

I wouldnt worry. All babies develop at different rates. My son walked at 10 months but my daughter is 1 in two weeks and is no where near ready. So just relax, he will do it when he is ready.

Is he crawling yet? My daughter didn't learn to sit up until she learned to crawl. She was 6 months but has always been big for her age.
