Go to an animal shelter, the SPCA or simply ask a vet for avaible cats in your area. Do not get a cat from a pet store as the cats are from pet mills and they charge you like 10 tens times the price. Also adopt a cat as they are often overlooked for kittens. Good luck.

Go right to your local animal shelter. They will have many, many cats to choose from. Adopting an animal from a shelter is much better than even getting a pet for free. The reason is the pet you adopt will be spayed/neutered, have all of the shots up to date and be ready to take home and love. They also usually come with a bag of food. You actually receive up to about $200 worth of services plus you get the pet too. (and you have saved a life).

humane society or SPCA, call a vet who can tell you where they adopt cats in your city - as every place is different - often in bigger cities there are some animal rescue groups that do adoptions but not all are good, a vet would know which ones are more reputable and which are not
becareful getting from shop, some shops SELL you animals but tell you they are adopting (SELLING is BAD) while some adopt out animals belonging to rescue groups or SPCA.. however its always better to get direct from SPCA because some of these stores charge a fee to the SPCA for doing this "favor" this takes away money from the good things the SPCA does..

If you want to adopt a rescue cat then you can go to the RSPCA or Cats Protection Shelter. If you want a pedigree cat then you can look on the internet or in the Yellow Pages for respectable breeders.

You don't adopt cats, they adopt you. They know they are in charge. Try your animal shelter or the front of almost any market.

The local animal shelter, or check the newspapers: Often there are people listing cats or kittens as 'free to good home'.
