I don't think that Chinese food is fattening although they use lots of fats when cooking. but putting together fish and chips there will make a fat. (get rid of the fattening threat boiling the fish and just spreading some olive oil on the potatoes with some chopped garlic and parsley).

It depends on what kind of chinese food.
If you eat chinese food that are steamed or boiled, it's definitely less fattening than the usually deep-fried fish n chips. But there are fattening chinese foods like deepfried wontons.

It depends..Chinese food cooked in China is not that fattening. They do not use a lot of rice or noodles.
What passes as Chinese food in the UK and Ireland is all quite greasy and when swilled down with huge portions of rice or noodles (especially if fried) becomes very fattening.
Fish and chips are deep-fried so fairly fattening.

Fish and chips is the most fattening take away you can get. Only should be eaten as an occasional treat!

If you make your own fish and chips, it can be quite healthy. You can get low fat oven chips and put the fish to soak off the oil on a kitchen towel before serving.
chinese food is mostly fried stuff. fried rice, fried pineapple, fried beef, fried shrimps, fried toast, fried pancakes, fried potato chips, fried egg, curry and chips in tray. I can't think of any chinese food other than boiled rice, that is healthy.
I vote for good old fashioned fish and chips. It's cheaper and you know whats in it.

i guess it really depends on where you get your chinese food... like if you cook it yourself or from restaurants. fish and chips by itself is pretty fattening just because it's deep fried.
chinese food covers a whole variety of things, and not fried... i'm chinese and i rarely eat things that are fried... even if it's from chinese restaurants. most of the things on their menu are are non-fried, like steamed fish or stir-fried vegetable stuff.. if it's from a chinese-take out place tailored towards caucasians' taste, then i guess they'd add a lot of oil and MSG to make it have a really rich and strong flavour. other than those places chinese food is actually quite light in terms of the amount of oil.

In general, fish and chips. But Chinese food has a lot more fat content than people realize. IE: Mushu Pork is LOADED with fat calories. Chinese sure is more yummilicious though! I think you don't see a lot of overweight Chinese people is because they have better eating habits. (IE, eat until the hunger is satisfied, instead of making 10 trips to the buffet).
