Stop tying it up and give it some attention. Your dog is definately not very social and the only way to make it social is to give it some attention. You have to help mold dog's personalities just like a person - they have feelings too. Wouldn't you be upset if someone tied you up for a week then let you go? You have to teach obedience through interaction, attention, and praise.

A one month old dog (4 weeks) should not be tied up at all. I don't even know of a breader that allows the dog to be seperated from it's mother until it is at least 7-8 weeks old. Exactly how old is this dog, in weeks? What kind of dog is it? Maybe you should try crateing the dog if you must leave it alone. Put a big fluffy blanket or pillow in the crate with it. A puppy that young needs a lot of exercise and attention. The puppy will calm down and listen to you if you spend more time with it. A firm "NO" is always helpful. The key word is firm. Have you ever watched the Dog Whisperer? Calm and Assertive, are key words here. Good Luck

You need to respect your dog more! It's a living creature, just like you and me. You shouldn't be thinking "okay how can I make it OBEY me." Since it's so young, it's going to do what it does. Once your dog learns to love you (and whoever you are with), the slightest "no" in a sorrow tone of voice will make the dog feel bad about whatever it did. Over time, your dog will understand. Look, dogs right now aren't very intelligent yet when they are this young. You might actually take it to "dog obedient school" or have a dog trainer come over and help you. It will help you build good habits with your dog, so that in the future you have a very lovable and obedient dog.

Your pup IS playing with you. You ever seen pups play with the mom and sibs they jump around nip and bark. He's having fun! But of course your hands don't seem to have that much fun, right? You need to show him that isn't the way YOU play. Get some treats...no not those store bought ones! Something yummy... you'll find out what he likes best (Mine really loves the reeses peanut butter chips for baking, I spend hours melting two chips together with my finger tips, she's too big for just one now, gives me something to do while watching t.v.). Make itty bitty pieces and tell him to sit. usually if you move the treat from in front of him headed back he will sit to keep an eye on it. If not place your other hand not the treat hand on his hips and place him in a sit possition. Smile! Say in high pitch voice gooooddd dog(or his name). Alright already give him his treat! You can try up and paw. Some obedience classes is a great way to learn to understand your new pup and for him to understand your crazy self!

Hi, I am a dog trainer. This is a common problem with puppies in general, at this age they are discovering what the different parts of their bodies do and how to use them. This should not be mistaken for aggression. The other main reason the puppy is biting you is the method of containment you are using. Crate training is a much better alternative. Please pick up a good training book that does not have something in the title like "the idiots guide to dog training". Tie outs increase difficulty in potty training, lead to aggression, and do not let puppies interact properly to learn manners. If you do not have the time nor patience to train your dog please contact a good intuitive dog trainer in your area.

Also, realize that a 1 month old puppy is not yet mentally capable of understanding obedience yet, would you expect a human infant to understand obedience?

I have had dogs as pets for nearly 50 years and I have never tied one up. Why did you do that? If you need to isolate your dog then use a tiled area in your house or fence off an area in your yard. When you bring the dog around you have it on a leash. Do not allow the dog to ever bark at you or bite you. You must be the alpha dog and your dog is trying to be the one in charge. Teach your dog the following words...NO...NO BITE...DOWN....SIT...STAY... NO BARK...STOP...QUIET...Say these words in a tone that says you mean it. Reward your dog when he obeys you. Get some good chew toys for your dog to bite on, instead of biting on you. The dogs we have now love the big tennis balls. Our little dog loves a heavy-duty rubber hippo that squeaks. A good book to get is "No Bad Dogs". Good luck!

I don't know your reason for tying your dog. That may make him/her a little defensive. I understand there are situations that force you to do so. Best thing to do is build a running pen for your dog. We had a new dog and a running pen. She was nipping at us when she was 8 weeks old. The way we broke her was to loosely wrap our hand around her snout (like a muzzle) and tell her firmly "NO". She soon caught on not to bite or snip at us. You have to do this immediately after he/she has done his/her biting or the point you are trying to get across to him/her won't register.

Well, if you tie up a dog (especially since it's only a puppy) your not letting that puppy release it's energy. So naturally it's going to be a bit wild when you untie him/her. How long is the animal tied up for? Is there another way other than tying up your dog? A one-month puppy needs to play not be tied up. Also, your puppy could be teething so it's natural for young dogs to want to chew. Get some chew toys for him/her. Go to Petsmart, they have dog training classes too, maybe you can learn how to understand your puppy.

First of all attend basic puppy obedience training; you can probably find a 6 session class with your local Humane Society for under $100. If that doesn't work, call the Dog Whisperer.
