My husband wanted to do a surprise getaway, so he called my boss to get me off work. My boss said he wouldn't feel right if we went without him paying for half.
What is an appropriate thank you?
We gave him and his wife a card, and I made brownies, bought them a nice tray with iron rack and put them in there and gave him that.... Was this OK? I'm worried about screwing this up!

I think a card and the brownies sends a very heartfelt thank you. Just let him know how appreciative you are of his generosity. He must be an extraordinary boss to be so kind to your and your husband, I'm sure he knows how much you appreciate his gift.

Considering you did the card... brownies... Seems like if he isn't sastisfied, then he needs to get into the real world... Honestly, people are supposed to give gifts expecting NOTHING in return. Since you showed your appreciation, that's a definite plus. Don't worry about it. I think the brownies & card were plenty. If it were me in your boss's shoes, I'd be happy with that.

That's fine. People who do good things for others don't do it because they want to be paid back in some way. Any sincere thank you is more than appropriate.

OMG...where do I work? Can I get a job there?

I think that is an appropriate thanks....the only other thing you can do is continue to be a good employee.

Wow! It seems like you've got a great boss! I think that what you've done already is plenty thanks enough but that anything more might be overdoing it. You don't want to seem like a kiss-up but you want your boss to know that you're appreciative.

You were very generous with your thank you and I think that was adequate.

I think what you did was great, and please, be so glad that you work for such a nice man.
