Windows has stopped making supporting updates, unless you have Windows XP.
However, if there is a update available, it should download. disable your anti virus, and zone alarm. Then try the download again. Remember to turn zone alarm and anti virus back on.
You may want to "re-boot" your computer before trying this.

Before installing anything, I would create a system restore so you can return to a time when your computer was working - in case you need to.
It could very well be the firewall. Be sure you do not have more than one on. I use the WindowsXP firewall and disabled the Norton.
When I run into this kind of problem, I temporarily disable the Yahoo pop-up blocker and the firewall. Then, save/download to the desktop. Then, I immediately restore the firewall and pop-up blocker. Now double-click the update to install.
Following that, just to be safe, run a scan.
After a while when everything is running smoothly, I suggest you create a new system restore. Only takes a minute and you won't be sorry.

I unfortunately don't remember if Windows 2000 handles things the same way, but in XP Pro, the updates are visible in the "Add/Remove Programs" list in Control Panel. ...It's a risky and terrible idea, but if you're for some odd reason, all that desperate.. uninstall those that you can, and then let update run. it'll probably pick up that all the old ones are gone. If they don't install properly, you have some other problem.
..Other than that, ...how much free space do you have? ..Some of these hot fixes take up a large chunk of memory. They will not install properly if they can't fit. =( might be a simple thing you overlooked.
Additionally, look into the Microsoft .NET Framework ..or whatever it's called. ...In XP, it's supposedly essential to run certain applications.

Make sure you are logged in with an administrative level account. Microsoft still supports Windows 2000, I support several hundred of them at work. Standard anti-virus/ spyware programs do not affect your updates. If the updates still don't install, you have a problem with your installation or MS thinks you have a illegal copy of Win2000.

I have XP, myself. It is not a store-bought copy, so it says it is not genuine. Besides that, there should usually always be some kind of link or button for options or details or something to see what the error is. Sorry I can't help.
