I loved them when I was in my late teens, so they're part of my personal myth. I've tried paintball and its not for me, and I think a real war would be at least a few shades worse than that.
I can almost understand when war is a part of the culture, that it has some obvious carnal benefits, such as looting villages, etc. However in a society such as ours where all the benefits go to the rich, I can only count it as a blessing that I am not much involved.
I think some really intense games can be psychologically damaging, particularly if the person is exposed at a young age with the wrong idea of what the games are for. For example they might reduce or distort emotional expressiveness.
I tend to think that if the games are still around in 20 years, and I expect they will be, it will be because there is a strong demand for them. They fulfill some of the subconscious needs of teenage men in particular who might otherwise become preoccupied with less acceptable actions.
I think we're hardwired to think that a shiny sword or sleek angular MP5 has inherent value, its one of the kinds of currency that everyone is free to understand. I'd like to believe that society will reach a stage where other healthier things have more value to the subconscious, things interrelated with a life of mind.
Perhaps simulated violence already fulfills that role for some people. But I don't really believe it. I had to undergo some hell after I played those games before I returned to being more of a self-motivated person. I hope you can appreciate my point of view. I wasn't really happy playing those games, but there was little that could stand in for them at that particular period in my life.

Violent video games just promote the violent street gang and rap culture of the inner cities. Young males get very addicted to these games and at times act out their aggressions on others.
Our society has to drastically change before any thought of banning would work. My guess is that the games give you an emotional release that make you feel good. Just remember that violence is wrong. We are taught by Jesus to love one another. I hope one day, you could find happiness by some other means, than from experiencing video violence. You just have to open your mind to other possibilities.

I personally can't believe that violent videogames are responsible for the ills of society. Violent video games are the victims here.
They are continously made scapegoats by liberals and poor parents.
Videogames are good at keeping children off the street and out of harms way.

Violent videogames has always been there... They just seem more violent now, cuz of better graphics...
I think it should be upto the parents to decide whats good for their children....
By the way, Tom and Jerry is supposed to be the most violent cartoon ever made.... Should we ban cartoons as well???

i don't care. i have seen a programme some time back. it gives a tool kit containing hammer , saw , gun etc. you could take these tools and attack the icons on your desktop. you can shoot 'my computer ' to pieces. the programme was meant to give the user a chance to vent his/her feelings when he/she wanted to do so. as we are not shooting human figures does that programme classify for being violent?
when you have a nice high end PC with good graphics and multi channel sound would you see a love story or action/horror movie ? if a video game has to sell it needs good graphics and ambient sound. violent games generally have good sound effects. and generally these games just take a user to a fantasy world for some time. i dont think just because playing these games anybody is going to be violent in nature.
and any game , if the user get addicted to it , is not good for the health of the individual . physically and i think emotionally as well.
and it applies to ALL type of games. not a good idea to sit in front of the computer all the time , shunning family and social life.

I believe in freedom so I would not want these games banned. Banning things takes away freedom. I personally don't like them, therefore I choose to not play them...although not wanting to be a hypocrite, I have to admit I have played Tomb Raider and she shoots people.

Ban them? No. It should be left up to the parents to decide whats best for their children. Don't create a demand for it and it will cease. Same thing with paparazi.
Be good.

I think that there is nothing wrong with playing violent videogames. As long as the person that is playing knows that its just a game.

I don't have a problem with them... real violence around the world is scary, not animated violence. Only people already disturbed & disillusioned get violent when exposed to video games. =)

They are running the children. Parents should not allow them games in their home. Yes. I wish they were all banned.
