By law you can get a free credit report each year from the big three reporting agencies. It is good to check it annually for mistakes anyway. Pull your report and see if there is anything on there. My thought is you don't need to have a SSN to be reported if you have established credit. But maybe you lucked out. The site is annualcreditreport.com

A social security # has been required to claim anyone as a dependant for tax purposes for a number of years. It has been required to open a bank account for as long as I've been alive. $258 if exteremely high for domain name registration. There is definately something missing from your story.

how did you have a bank card without a SS #?

if you've been sent to collections, i promise that you have a bad mark.
on the positive side, since you were only 17 when you made a contract, then the contract is invalid. any derogatory marks should be removed for this reason.
It's a pain in the (you know), but it's your responsibilty to clean it up.

if you were using your parents card, then THEY may have the black mark. better check into this one closely.

This will probably negatively affect your credit until you can get it removed from all three credit bureaus.

This is also a great lesson for you. Whenever you want to cancel something send it in writing, certified with return receipt. When you get the return receipt staple it to a dated copy of the letter.

the easiest thing to do is check your credit score. If its got a bad mark on it, dispute it
