In fitness, there's something called the law of specificity, which means the only way you improve a certain movement or sport is by practicing that movement or sport. Basic physics will tell you the only way to increase force is either increase mass and/velocity. Chances are you're not going to increase the mass of your fist and arm too much no matter how much weight you lift. The best way is to increase velocity and you do that by perfecting your technique. Some other answers are right by telling you to use your entire body, pivot your feet through the punch, allow your hips, chest and shoulders to pivot through the punch, and most importantly, relax through the punch only tightening your muscles upon impact.

Right cross:throw the punch straight forward while using the waist and not the arm to perform the motion.You should pivot on your back foot while transfering your weight to the front(left) foot.
Left hook: throw the punch while pivoting at the waist and on the front foot putting your weight into your back foot.No matter what the punch or which hand similar actions apply but may be opposite respectfully.
Always use your waist and not your arm to throw a punch and to retrieve the on that you just threw.These are the basics but it's very hard to explain without being able to show you.
Do heavy bag work once you've got the mechanics down but always wrap your hands.

Do push-ups instead of bench presses, for starters.
Reason: although you can exceed your bodyweight with barbells, you are using a false support (the bench) and your back is not developing in association with the arm. Also, bench presses can (and often do) tear the hell out of your rotator cuff.
Then, follow through with your body on the punch.

work on the heavy bag and believe it or not work on your core, the stronger your core is the more power you can put behind your punches

take 2 lb dumbells and shadow box, chest excercises, work on heavy bag, and thats about it...besides the other obvoius essentials of becoming a sucessful boxer, well i kickbox and do MMA so its a different story
