IAMS and Science Diet have very good reputations. Just make sure the pieces are small enough for the dog's mouth. DO NOT give the dog cat food! It is formulated for cats and will no be good for the dog. Some people think dogs and cats are the same just in different shapes, but they have completely different body chemistries and needs. Also, be sure to take the dog for regular veterinary visits and keep it's teeth clean. Your dog will live a much longer and more healthy life.

I have had a Chi for 2 years.

The best food for these lovely animals is dog food. Really! Choose a nice dog food like Iams or Science Diet. Because Chihuahuas are so small, it is important that good nutrition is in everything they eat.

It is really horrendous to feed Chihuahuas people food. They get sick easily and their digestive systems just can't take it.

If a Chihuahua is sick, the best thing to feed him or her is cooked chicken (ground or boneless breast) and rice with no seasoning. Dogs don't care if there is no oregano!

Take care of your baby by feeding him or her high-quality dog treats as well: that way you can make up for the lack of people food with some tasty treats that won't fill him/her up with bad stuff.

Good luck!

wow, what a bunch of idiots on here. if ya deleted all the stupid answers you would have a few nice answers. usually you get what you pay for in a dog food. there are special small breed puppy/adult foods which are nutritionally designed for the high energy small dog and they are small bits so the dog can eat them easily. eukanuba, iams, science diet are probably the top 3 "good" brands you can get at the pet store.

We use Puppy Chow for our chihuahua puppies but for our older chihuahua's we use Purina for adult dogs .You can ask your vet which is the best food for your chi but we never give them the wet or the moist food because they have a problem with it.But you should be fine with any dry premium dog food. you can also get the Foster's and Smith's catalog for dogs and they have great dog food as well we use that as well.Hope that was helpful for you.Good Luck.

I was going to be really horrible and say a small cat or kitten.
Try the Caesar Range for small dogs - we have a Jack Russell and she has had a couple of operations this year, poor bugger. They really got her appetite up and going - the other one was 'Butchers Choice' which comes in a sachet.
Just remember that you chihuahua is a dog - and therefore will eat dog food! If you have any problems with this, speak to your vet who will advise you, I am sure.

I have 4 pure breed dogs that are used for show and breeding purposes. I've always started my dogs off on "eukanuba" puppy food for small dogs, its really great. It won't upset there stomach and give them diarrhea, and they take to it well. Its available at most pet stores.

True- these otherwise noisy, hairless, growth hormone mutated squirrels have some distinct culinary preferences. For example, those unfortunate enough to be fed from my collection of tins deign to dine on olives, diced and washed first. mixed with an unremarkable green dip. Remarkably, they take care to eat well (keeping trim, perhaps) and meat seems to be an acceptable alternative to a nut pate. Leaves, including rocket, hold as much interest as Salad ought to inspire.
Difficult to suggest a desired result, I'll go as far as suggesting a collection of necessary nutrients, a bit of chilli, virtually no salt or pepper, and under no circumstance, Cheeses. Even Emmental
