Its a cat thing, kind of like their leather obsession. It has nothing to do with salt, seeing as cats cant taste salt or sugar. Some cats like the sound and some cats like the feel of it, and some cats are just strange. My moms cat likes to play with paper and toilet paper.

Cats just love the sound of the crinkle - there are toys & tunnels made especially for cat that incorporate this sound.

However, if your cellophane is coming from a candy bar - don't let them eat the candy OR the cellophane. It could harm them! The candy could be poisonous (chocolate is)..... The cellophane could do damage to their intestinal track.

Keep it away from them, and get them a cat toy that crinkles!

A lot of it has to do with the crinkle sound it makes. I'd watch it, the pieces could get caught inside if they eat them. I've seen cloth tunnels that are lined with a spring to hold shape, and have a crinkly material sewn in with the spring to make noise, probably cellophane. I would think they'd love it to death.

cats are hunters. Cellophane makes noise when it moves, so, to a house cat, thats prey to catch. When I was young, my mom would make a cheap cat toy by tying string around cellophane and dragging it around for the cat to chase. Just don't let your cat chew on it. It could hurt him if he eats it.

I don't know. My cats love the stuff, although they don't eat it. I think it is the sound that it makes. My cats love it because the static cling makes it stick to their paws when they are playing.. that much i know at least..

It's the cracking sound. It attracts them and the natural instincts is to play. If they get a treat during the playtime all is well for them. They are always attracted to the sound.
