What needs to be cured is the fear, ignorance and sheer hatred by the Christians toward ANY community that isn't straight and Christian.

I don't believe it is an illness either but...
Just to play devil's advocate for a minute. Why are there so many other so called illnesses that doctor's diagnose as such. For instance "Depression" is an illness that can be treated, "Obesity" has been considered to be a pyshcological condition, and you can no longer tell fat people to stop eating because apparently it's not that simple etc. "Social anxiety" years ago used to be called shyness.
And for the record I'm not saying any of the above conditions are wrongly diagnosed either. It's just something to think about.
There was a Star Trek Next Generation episode paralleling this topic in which they visited a planet consisting of only one neutral gender. However every so often people would be born that found themselves to be either more male or more female. (It's been several years since I say it but I think I'm getting the plot right). I believe one of them that was female fell in love with on of the crew members. The government on the planet found out and as a result this person was "cured". Before the "cure" this person was kicking and screaming not wanting to be cured, they were happy the way they were, and the crew of the enterprise was fighting it as well. They ended up losing the fight though and the person after being "cured" acted the same as the rest of the planet and was thankful they had been "cured".
If you are still reading at this point, my point about that story is that it may be possible to find a so called "cure" for homosexuality, and there will be people out there that will willingly take this "cure" so that they can lead "normal" lives.
I would like to restate after all that, that my position still remains that homosexuality should not and does not need a cure. As far as being a sin I'm not religious enough to take a position on that.

I believe the cure could be for the person to learn to love themselves as they are. I believe human conditioning has put them in this position and they find themselves believing there are no other options other than to become something else.
Surrounding family conditions in the first four years of life, pretty much make the child the person they are going to be in the future. Whether that is a bank robber, a child molester, or a scientist!! I don't think of homosexuality as a sin, just the same as I don't believe depression is a sin. I believe they are victims of circumstance and dealing with past issues could be a great help.

Hello Agnostic mum,
You don't really have to agree i suppose, because you have free will, which means you choose. I think the important thing to remember is that if you ask a Christian if its wrong or right then we have to do our best to agree with God on any subject.
I also think we haven't looked after this world very well, man has put man first and this means we have destroyed each other the enviroment, and in general subjected a great creation to our fallen natures, and in this have tried to demolish whats good and clean. We have used our knowledge to gain power and used religions of different kinds to justified our greed for wealth and power. Creation has become confused perhaps with the use of chemicals, media manipulation. ohhhh I'm harping on lol

Homosexuality is a normal human variation like height nor IQ, our sexuality is a result of genetic as well as hormonal influences inside the mothers womb, there are possibly familial & societal influences that also play a part as well as many other influences nobody can trace and none of which we can choose...but sexuality is fixed if not from birth then from very early infancy, we cannot choose our sexuality whether we are straight or gay... denial of course is another matter and not to be encouraged, it can have devastating affects on people.
I'm very happy being gay and being true to myself, I have a loving partner and both our families and friends accept us because fortunately they are sane people.
Homophobes and anti-gay folk who hide behind religion and use it as an excuse for their prejudice need to grow up and stop twisting their dubious scriptures to vilify homosexuals and try to accept human nature...it is they who have a problem.

Generally speaking, Homosexuals are victims of a distant father and overbearing mother. Lesbians have had trouble with incest or rape.
It comes from someone trying to fulfull an emotional need that shouldn't be fulfilled emotionaly along with just pure curiousity. I know tons of guys who experimented homosexually in highschool. I have also heard from some who realized they were filling an emotional need.

Sorry I misread your original question.. just consider this a bit of a rant!!! Sorry about that!
Illness???? Why would you say that. I am gay and don't find it to be an illness!!! I love myself and my sexual orientation.
There is no cure for being yourself. What if I told you being straight was an illness? That all straight people are wrong for over crowding the planet?
I don't care what you do in your bedroom. Why do you care what I do in mine. Live and let live.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.
The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."
With love in Christ.

I too don't believe that this is an illness nor you are born that way but a decision. If you check your dusty bible in the book of Roman chapter 1:since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Don't forget how AIDS started in the USA (by white male homosexuals) and you know the rest of the story. Sorry but it is a reality.

You think it's an illness but nothing is wrong with it?......hmmmmmm
If you are a Bible believer, then you know what is wrong with it, It you aren't, you are entitled to your opinion but don't criticize others for theirs.
BTW..I do not believe a person is born gay. I believe it has to do with their upbringing, people's beliefs and desires that they are surrounded by. Many people in here say we btrainwash our children into religion........I think that pretty much what happens with this topic

According to Romans 1, people who totally reject God are allowed to pursue their own lust and fall into homosexuality. If the Bible is true, then the only fix is God.
Why would you ask a question and then say "don't give me the right answer". Its like you want to be wrong-doesn't make sense.
