who else hates to see ur dog in discomfort? i bathe my dog once a month, but he has extremely sensitive skin, and even though i use johnson's baby shampoo, he still occasionally breaks out after i bathe him, and i can tell it itches him a few days after until it dissipates. the only thing i can do to ease the pain for a little while is i rub his back and his sides where the bumps are, and he really appreciates it......but dont u hate to see your dog in pain and know you cant really do anything for them

To see your animal in pain or discomfort is probably one of the worst feelings ever. My dog Storm has really bad allergies and she is itchy all the time. My husband and I have done all the allergy testing, the allergy shots, medications, creams, pills, you name it we've tried it. At this point all we can do is keep her from scratching herself bloody. She shakes her head a lot because her ears itch and she chews her feet because of the itching. So we spoil her to death. Shes allowed in our bed, when the other dogs are not. She goes on more walks than the other dogs ( I have 4) and we try to keep her as comfortable as possible. The bumps you talk about are probably "hot spots". The vet recommended that we shave her where these hot spots are. It's supposed to relieve some of the itching if the air can get to the area. There is also a spray you can get from the vet called Dermacool. It's a topical spray that helps relieve itch. Oatmeal conditioner, or extra virgin olive oil also helps with extra dry skin. Benadryl worked for Storm for a little while, before she became immuned to it. She weighs 80 pounds so we were told, by the vet to give 50 mgs. of Benedryl once a day. How big is your dog? Ask your vet what dosage of Benedryl may help relieve the itching. This may help as well. Good Luck

This sounds like an allergy to me. You can have him tested at your vets office. Also using human shampoo no matter how gentle can mess his skin up. Try going to a very gentle or medicated dog shampoo, and bathe him every other month. To help sooth him give his the child's dose of benedryl. Good luck

You might try contacting your vet's office for information on a dog shampoo that will be helpful to your dog's sensitive skin. Baby shampoo is not really meant to dogs even though it's gentle. And, yes....I don't like my dog to be uncomfortable.

Have you tried different shampoos? i have a dog with sensitive skin & I found that procare brand (got it at the vet's office) mixed with an equal amount of water works best for her.

It may cost a little more, but you can get a medicated shampoo that will fix that. Also, make sure when you rinse him of the shampoo your using now, that he is thoroughly rinsed. If shampoo dries in his coat, it will cause him to itch.

instead of using a shampoo use some herbal lather. do apply hibiscus paste to sooth his skin before wash.
