Expect a walk through of the home. The main focus on a walk through are the following questions.
Is there running water?
Is there Electric and Gas?
Is the conditions so poor that a child could injur his or her self (especially on the floor if there are small children).
Are the care providers in a condition to provide adequate supervision?
People always run and clean their home when CPS workers are on the way. It is nice to have a clean environment for children but it is not a requirement. CPS is a tool to determine if there are any conditions which could be negative to the mental or physical welfare of children living at that residence. Anonymous complaints are not taken as serious as a relative, friend, or acquaintance making a complaint. Unfortunately CPS and Police Agencies are used all to much by mad ex-significant others to "get back" at their former partners. Good luck.

I adopted my son in Texas a number of years ago. The CPS investigator had a look around the home to make sure that it was adequate as far as utilities and sleeping accomodations and general safety. She observed our interactions as a family looking for any tells that we weren't quite as we appeared. All in all, it was a non-event for us.

That said, it's got a lot to do with the reason for the visit. A few years after I adopted my son, he told his kindergarten teacher that he had a little sister at home and we kept her in the closet and threw shoes at her. He's always been quite the story teller.

That triggered another visit from CPS that was not quite as cordial as the first. We had two city cops, a couple of sheriff's deputies and several military police at the house along with two social workers from CPS. It was pandemonium. When the CPS supervisor showed up, it was the former case worker from the adoption. She recognized us immediately and quickly got things under control and sent everyone on their way. They CAN be decent folks.

Just make sure things are clean and ready for a visit from someone you want to impress..
Most agencies claim to be Child Protective, but, that isn't always what happens. They have a little too much power and way too little sense.
If I were expecting a visit, I think I'd have a lawyer present.

nothing,they are a joke.

they will inspect the living conditions, make sure everything is acceptable.the kids will have to get checkups at the doctor to see if they were abused. they will check school records to make sure they are not missing any serious schooling.
