If I was to do it...I would run the cold water while doing so. I really do not want to save it for later cooking purposes.

Do not run COLD water down after it! That willjust harden it up and let it cling insideyour pipes!

If you have a septic tank, do not do it at all.

If you have a sewer, run HOT water and Dawn detergent down w/ it. Squirt some dawn into the grease, and slowly drip down the drain w/ HOT water going. Flush w/ plenty more hot water afterwards.

Or, you can just pour the grease while still warm into a coffee cup. Refrigerate. They pry out when cold into the garbage.

I had my father-in-law, who has been a plumber for thirty years, over for lunch a few weeks ago, and I made onion rings for both him and my husband. As I was about to pour the used vegetable oil down the drain, he stopped me and explained that even though it won't congeal, it could cause the pipes to become sticky and other minute particles of food that get washed down the drain could build up. I believe it goes the same for bacon grease. The absolute best thing to do with used grease or oil is to pour it into an airtight container (a used pasta sauce jar, for example) and throw it out with the trash. If you do choose to pour it down the sink though, definitely run the water as hot as possible for about a minute after you have poured the grease. You may even want to pour down a pot of boiling water. I hope this helps.

If you must, then run HOT water down the drain, not cold. The grease hardens when it cools. Hot water keeps it liquid until it gets out of your pipes, so run the water as hot as possible for several minutes.
It's really a bad idea, though. Pour it in an empty can, let it cool and harden, then wrap it up and throw it away. That's what I do.

i do it too, but i run the HOT water, because if you run cold, it will cause the grease to coagulate quicker (like how it looks if you make bacon and let the grease set in the pan) It can clog your pipes no matter what, but i figure the very hot water will help keep it liquified longer until it gets to where it has to go. Then I run some dish detergent down there (like dawn or joy) to help break up the grease.

Grease will clog your drain and coat your pipes with sludge. Pour hot used grease into an old tin can that you have saved from canned fruit or vegetables and cool it in your fridge or freezer, then when it's turned solid, put it out with the regular trash.

If you must dump bacon grease down your sink, make sure you put some dish soap in it first, mix that around, then use HOT water to wash it away, to disolve the grease so it doesn't stick to your pipes and clog your drain.

Grease Down The Drain

no that is one of the worst things you can do to a drain. and do NOT pour cold water down with it. Just collect grease in a jar, I do that, and when it is full just throw it in the trash.

Grease will totally clog your drain.

Never ever run cold water on top of hot grease! That will clog your pipes!
