It depends what you mean by public, and how the baby and mom are doing.

I took my son for walks outside every day from the day I got back from the hospital. And we did go to friends' houses for dinner etc.

I did go to the mall for some baby stuff I needed when he was 10 days old, and it was hell. I was still trying to get breastfeeding happening smoothly, and the change table in the washrooms was a health hazard. I now pity babies who are pushed around in strollers when they look so tiny and new, and it's obvious 'mom' just wants to work off baby fat by wandering round a mall, just from that one hellish day I had to do.

Nothing wrong/bad is going to happen except for stress on the mommy's part. Stick to nice walks outside for fresh air, and dinner at friend's houses etc.

Absolutely!
As a parent and grandparent 2 times over, I assure you it is fine. Make sure the baby is dressed for the weather-cool loose clothing in the heat and bring extra blankets and sweaters along if the weather turns cold later. Make sure stockings are not too tight around the baby's ankles (too tight elastic can cut off blood supply to legs) Don't forget sun hats and fluid (formula or water) so baby does not get dehydrated. Bring washcloth and soap in plastic container to keep baby fresh.
Protect baby with mosquito netting if you are in an area that has this problem. Hope this helps....

yes you can take a baby anywhere at anytime as long as they are well wrapped up in cold weather.

I have 4 children, my 2nd i left the hospital when she was 4 hours old and i had no choice but i had to go into town as i hadn't finished getting baby things that i needed so she was 4 hours old on her first shopping trip.

My 3rd child i had to take my son to nursery she was 6 to 7 hours old i had her at home. her frist outing was walking her rother to nursery.

Life doesn;t Stop just becasu eyou ahev had a baby.

Babies that young still have their birth mother's immunity. I would be careful about inclement weather, or whether it is very hot or very cold...any extreme in weather is not good for a baby this young. Make sure you don't over or under dress the baby or keep him/her in direct sunlight, babies burn very easily. I also wouldn't take the baby someplace where someone is very ill and contagious, but that goes without saying.....play your intuition, every mom has it...

I say it's fine, but PLEASE cover your baby's eyes! I cannot even begin to count the number of parents who take their babies out for the day and you see the poor kid squinting, while the parent is walking around wearing sunglasses.
