If someone is a threat to others or even themselves. They obviously have issues they are not able to deal with. For some people that can be very difficult. Most of these issues though are usually short term and these over whelming feelings do...subside. If it gets to this point....it's obviously out of your control and you need to make the call to get them some help before it's too late.

If you were absolutely certain that there was no way that you could stop them - go into the kitchen and make yourself a nice, strong cup of tea.
If it's your wife that is killing herself, best if you use a disposable cup - so you won't have to do the washing up afterwards.
After the dirty deed has been deeded, go down to Poundland
(maybe they call them 2 dollar shops in America?)
There you can buy 100 plastic cups for a £1 (or 2 dollars) so you will never have to wash another cup.
If you are feeling really extravagant you may want to buy some cardboard plates and plastic knives & forks.
It works out cheaper than using washing up liquid and it gives you more time to drink beer.
Okay?

Keep a REALLY close eye on them. And keep any small children away from them...if you look at the case of Andrea Yates, they were watching her for post-partum depression and thought she might do something to herself. She is alive and all of her children she killed instead. Depression is an ugly thing. Work, Bills none of it matters if your family ANY member of your family is in danger of another member or themselves. Prioritize, Seek Help, and be diligent1

Make sure they know how much you love them and how much you'd miss them and feel lost without them there to love each day. Find out why they want to take their life and help them change the problem.

I would try to get them some help. If you can prove that they intend to do harm to themselves then you can become their power of attorney and make them seek counselling or enroll them in some sort of mental health program. But if someone is really going to commit suicide then they don't tell anyone about it...if they really want to do it they don't want anyone to talk them out of it...so if they tell you then its their way of asking for help.

I would call the local police department and let them take them in for psychiatric evaluation.
That way they can get the help they need and you are not having to physically keep them from harm.
