I'm going to a friend's wedding this evening. I'm going to get the present today. The reason I waited till now is because I don't know what to get them. I thought about giving them some cash because I figure everyone can always use some extra money. I know a lot of times small appliances and such are given but the couple has been living together for a few years now. They have all that stuff.

Cash is certainly the best gift if the couple has been living together for quite some time. This gives the couple the opportunity to save the money for a new home, future project at their home or purchase something that they really need (even if they are registered, there are always other items they need such as a garden hose, furniture, etc - things they may not be able to register for). Additionally, if the couple is going on a honeymoon they may be able to use the money you give them to enjoy a romantic dinner or excursion.

Lastly, bulky gifts can be cumbersome for a couple - they have to transport them home after the wedding and after a long day, the last thing they really are up for is dragging dozens of big boxes home.

While many think that money is impersonal, to me there's nothing like cash. If you want you can get gift cards, but what if it's to a place they don't shop or a restaurant they don't frequent?
Maybe they need to broaden their views!?!

If you wish, give them money. Write a very personal note inside the card. I'm sure they will appreciate your generosity.

Is your friend not registered somewhere? That would make it a lot easier. If not, maybe a gift certificate to a nice place and they could pick out what they want?

can't go wrong with buying a gift certificate or card for somewhere that you know they like to go and eat at, cash, or find out where they are registered at.

why not purchase 5 different types of wine and have a basket made for the wines. I say 5 different types of wine because once each year as they celebrate their anniversary and they will have a different wine to enjoy.
