There's this thing about 'taking the Lord's name in vain' in the Commandments.

As Christians believe that Jesus is God (except when you ask them directly if Jesus is God), then saying 'Jesus!' except when talking to or about him is seen as 'taking his name in vain' and thus a sin.

As I see it, whatever. It's just a name.

Sara,
This actually can be a good question.
"Is "JESUS" a swear word?"
I believe that there is no dictionary in the world that would call it that.

Swearing can be done while using His name. This He said not to do. Don't swear by anything on Earth or in heaven etc . . .

If you mean cursing. Cursing is cussing. I curse, God curses. But Jesus isn't typically used when I curse. I might say "God damned Hezbollah," and be right on. Or "God damn the devil!" and it IS God damned, so I am speaking truthfully.

It's like that.

No Jesus is not a swear word. Jesus is the Name that is above every other Name. There is power in that name, to transform lives and heal people. People use it to blaspheme, which is wrong. If only these people who used His Name in vain realised how much Jesus can do for them.

Matt 1:21
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins.

Some people use it as a swear....and it comes naturally. Of course God does not want us to do that.

Psalm 113:2
Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore.

The name Jesus is the most exalted and holy name in history. Unfortunately, many people use it in a swearing context which expresses nothing more than their ignorance. That is very sad..

it depends on how you use it, if it is being used to instruct someone, or during praise or in prayer then no it isn't, but if it is being used in A place where A 4 letter word could be used then yes, if it is not doing anything but bringing the lord down instead of glorifying him then yes it is a swear word. the name of the only begotten Son of god should not be used in any way disrespectful or in Away that does not bring him honor. i don't even Say oh my god unless it is in prayer, or like now in instruction About blasphemy
