although i am an athiest i am also a practical person. jesus and buddha lived very clean and saintly lives. while mohomed was i feel a tribal chief who did what any tribal leader did.
how can any sensible person, muslim or not still say that mohomed's tribal lifestyle fits the 21st century?
forget religion , dont you think that commonsense should be the norm of this day and age? would we honor Genghis khan, Hitler, or stalin if religions were created in their names?

I think the best thing that happened to Jesus was that he died before he had true power.

Power corrupts. Not living long enough to be corrupted doesn't really make him Muhammad's superior in my eyes.

What prophecies did Genghis Khan, Hitler, or Stalin fulfill? There were many many prophecies that Jesus fulfilled. The prophecy of the first coming of the messiah is written in the Old Testament. All of the prophecies were fulfilled by Jesus. As far as I know there were no prophecies written concerning these other people. Do you know of any? I agree with you that they have no basis for their beliefs if all mohomed did was to lead them as a tribal chief. I looked up a website that explains why Christians believe the way that they do about Jesus. There are a lot of Christians that just follow the rest of the herd but there are some of us who have actually studied why we believe the way we do. There were 300 prophecies that were fulfilled by Jesus and him being the messiah. Let me rephrase that. There are 300 prophecies written about the coming of the messiah. They were written over the course of hundreds of years. Jesus fulfilled all 300 prophecies. The statistical possibilities of one person fulfilling all the prophecies are amazingly small. Now concerning common sense. The Bible draws a distinction between worldly wisdom and spiritual wisdom. Worldly wisdom is not what is required for our salvation. Eve made her venture into worldly wisdom, ignoring the rules that God made. In the end, I hope she enjoyed that apple because there wasn't much enjoyment to be had after that. We are supposed to be wise but in a way that we trust in God and that his word is the truth. And that if we follow the teachings in the Bible we will be saved. Besides that, I have always said that common sense isn't common at all anyway. I don't know where this common sense is that you speak of. If it's wordly wisdom that you are taliking about then I would say to be careful. People are selfish. Not wise.

as I d not believe in god or the heavens or hell I do believe that Jesus was a real man and did die on the cross as well, and I very much believe that Jesus lived a saintly life, I do not know of Mohammad and Buddha, but as far as the lifestyles that they lived and the examples that they set and the stories that have been told of their lives I am glad and thankful for the religions and the beliefs that exist today because of them, because I know that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I don't believe that there is such a place or a thing after we die, but in the here and now hell is a pretty accurate description as to where mankind is heading, the world with religions following Stalin and Hitler already exist, there are people out there who stil worship and idolize what these mass murderers achieved and accomplished through out their life times, anyways if you are an atheist you know you already know the answer to all of this, it's common sense, there are such things as evil and good in this world, you and I both know that things could be so much worse, and that they are goin to get worse before they get better, maybe a few billion of us just need to die off in order for things to change

well you need to realize that Jesus was not a real person, Mohammad seems to have actually existed. And Siddhartha Gautama Buddha is not quite certain, some of the stories of Buddha are certainly mythic. As for wlould we honour religions started by the other historic figures, well yes we might if they had won, but they lost, so instead of saints they are demons.

Braveheart,

You have made a very thoughtful observation. There is a problem, which exists within all religions. In time, the teachings of the Master, inevitably become diluted by the men who try to pass them on through time. In addition, traditions come into existence, ordained by religious leaders, for what seem good reasons. In time, these traditions take on a life of their own, and often times supplant the teaching of the originator of the faith. (Christmas, for example). There are no religions that are not plagued by these problems. The only solution, is to bypass them entirely. We must return, to the pure message that they were supposed to convey, before the corruption of men set in. Jesus, came to this world, to bring us a message, both simple, and elegant in it's power. "The Kingdom of God, is within you". When we come to God, as humble children, and invite Him into our hearts, He sends His Spirit into us, and bonds with us. We become new creatures, part mortal, part Immortal. The old values of materialism and fear, fall away. Love and Wisdom, become the foundation of all our choices. We have embarked on a Path, where no religion can go. God, doesn't have denominations, or churches, or mosques. He has Children. Whether we, as individuals, choose to make Him our Father, and do His will, is up to us. No system of faith, can do that for us.

Bear something in mind; that being each person has 'common sense'. (I have never seen or heard of a book of common sense.
Each person thinks they have it. At the 'root' of it, Christianity has Christ is superior to man and tells Christians how to have more than 'common sense'. As for your assertion about Hitler, Stalin and others would Naziism (Hitler) and Communism (Stalin) be considered religion or a philosophy?

Perhaps the rules of past times don't make sense any more but they provide a connection for religious people to thier past and the prophets.

A question back to the athiest, if you take out the bullcrap rules, what came before? Where did you come from and where will you go? What came before the universe? God.

Not necessarily the jewish , christian or moslem god, but whatever it was that we came from is God. Btw, no I dont think He/She cares if we're gay or not, but I'd like to think that He's happier if we follow the Golden Rule.

That's pretty extreme. What you have to remember is that the origin of a religion doesn't matter nearly as much as its principles. Chrisitanity started out far more underground than did Islam, but none of that really matters as long as the religions inspire their followers to good deeds.

And if any relgion has caused more bloodshed than the others, I would have to cite Christianity.

What a thought ! great ! your name should go to g.b.w.r.
If Jesus or Buddha can live clean at that time, then why not Mohamed ? although he was tribal leader.
I am a Hindu but i must think that, after Buddha left his kingdom, he was all the time in jungle meditating. Until he got his Moksha, inner knowledge. Do you think Jungle was clean ?

It doesn't fit this century. The guy was a ruthless theif and murderer, and I can't understand how modern people want to follow his warped vision, and not question the inconsistencies in his story. You want to really see people who were completely fooled, check out Mormons and the Joseph Smith hoax
