Some people say they're checked through, some people say I have to claim them at baggage claim, go through customs, then I put them back on a carousel that is right there, and some people say I claim them at baggage claim, go through customs, then have to carry them to my next flight. I am connecting from AA to BA. I called the airline and the reservationist had "no idea" Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I WORK FOR THE AIRLINE.. YOU HAVE TO LET THE CHECK-IN AGENT KNOW UR DESTINATION SO THEY CAN CHECK UR LUGGAGE ALL THE WAY TO AMSTERDAM. IF YOU DON'T TELL THEM.. THEY WILL ONLY CHECK IT TO LONDON FOR U AND IN THAT CASE... YES YOU HAVE TO GO THROU IMMIGRATION N CUSTOM.. CLAIM UR LUGGAGES N CHECK IN AGAIN.. AA N BA HAS LUGGAGE AGREEMENT. YOU SHOULD BE FINE.. AND YES I DO HATE THOSE PHONE REP. I WONDER HOW THEY GOT A JOB WHEN THEIR KNOWLEDGE'S NOT EVEN USEFUL. WHATEVER THEY TELL YOU ON THE PHONE'S TOTALLY DIFF. WITH WHAT YOU'LL FIND OUT AT THE AIRPORT..

When traveling internationally, the rule is:

You must claim luggage and clear customs and immigration every time you enter a new country. So, unless they keep you in a sequestered area in London, you need to claim and recheck.

I love it when people say "I work for the airlines", like there is only one. No you don't, because in the industry, we don't use this term.

I've always been told, while traveling to the USA that when you where to go further you do have to go through customs get your bags and check them in again.
But I always fly direct to JFK when leaving Amsterdam.
But you know what you want to be safe, specially now.
So if you want to be sure, check with the airline which is taking you to London.
They must be able to tell you, or the airline that's taking you to JFK.
And next time, get another traveling agency, they sound pretty stupid if they can't get you that information!

I think you don't have to, unless you book them seperately.
