Personally, (and the entire umbelieveable Bible aside) I will never be a Christian because the idea of a god that will throw good people into hell just because the happen to not be Christians, but will let murderers and rapists who convert after years of hurting others into heaven just disgusts me. Oh, and also, no one will ever be able to convince me that homosexuality is a "sin."

What are some of your reasons that the Christians will never get you?

I use to be a Christian. I have no problem with the subjective entity that I would call Jesus, nor do I have issues with the Gospels, per say, I have serious issues with the borderline criminal behavior of the Christian community that has spread from the South and now is the predominant Christian culture and expression across the United States. They are busy condemning others while they do their pest to defraud people with various confidence scams.

Oh, ok, so you think if you plug two toasters into each other you will get toast, so homosexuality is ok? It doesn't have to be against God to be wrong, it's against NATURE.

It's not the Bible or God that says that good people will be thrown into Hell, and murderers and rapists will be saved, it is PEOPLE that say that. They say it to convert people to their religion, so they will have more people, therefore more money for the church. The Bible is a history book written by many authors. God says you can be good all your life OUTWARDLY but if you are doing wrong things and hiding it from others then you are more wrong than the person who commits a crime and feels bad about it and wishes they didn't do it.

There are Christians who cheat on their spouses, lie, steal, and never give it a second thought because they go to church - they ARE more wrong than someone who did something once and are truely sorry they did it. That's common sense, not religion. Also the point is if you KNOW what is right and don't do it then you are more wrong than the person who does wrong because they don't realize it's wrong. With knowledge comes responsibility. You don't have to convert to anything to understand that.

And to think I chose your question because I thought you were another christian picking on atheist again. Gee, was I wrong.

The most important thing is that I do not believe in God and don't believe I am able to. So we've stopped before we started.

Past that, however, the reason of 'salvation through belief' that you have given strikes me as particularly hateful. The individualist nature of 'salvation' (to hell with others, I'm going to get my own backside into heaven) is another. The whole us-against-them mentality. The idea that God would ever care who we make love to or what food we eat. The whole messed up idea of the Trinity (Christianity's basic illogic). The position it takes against a woman's right to her body, alternate sexualities, the progress of science...

Wow, I'm just beginning. I could probably write a book.

Even if I found myself somehow convinced one day that there is a God, I will _never_ be a Christian.

Well, I'm a Baha'i, so I would have to give up my belief in Baha'u'llah (and Mohammed and Buddha and others) as a Prophet of God --- and I don't see that happening.

As to your objection to the "either/or" view of heaven and hell.... I believe that heaven is simply nearness to God and hell is distance from Him -- and there are degrees of both. I don't think God throws us there; I think we put ourselves there by our bad choices. For instance, a murderer or rapist who repents will be truly sorry for the pain and suffering he has caused -- it will burn and eat at him, even after death. And a good person who has served God in his own fashion and helped others and made the world a better place will be rewarded by God for what he has done, but will wish that he had known more about God sooner.

BTW, I heard an interesting talk once about sin. The speaker pointed out that even though your sin is forgiven, the effect of the sin remains -- it is not wiped out as though it had never happened (as some Christians have told me). The example he gave was that if you had smoked opium for years and it had blackened your teeth, giving it up and repenting your sin would not give you white teeth. By the same token, if you had killed someone, you may be forgiven, but you remember and regret -- and if you truly repent, this will color the rest of your life... and the next. Your memory is not wiped out -- nor does the person come back to life.

Hope this makes sense. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

I was a practicing Christian for over 30 years. I've read the bible more than once and studied the issues as a mature adult.

For me, it's very simple and relies on nothing other than the fact there is no credible evidence to support God belief. There is no other factor required.

Atheism is the only logical choice.

As usual, I agree with edsawyer (above), if "God" did exist, he would not be a "Christian" or support "Christianity." It is an illogical, unsupportable doctrine that silly Gods wouldn't support, much less almighty Gods.

As simple because... There are too many Bibles... Each sect have their own Holy Book. Even the history proved that Protestant was born because the King of England don't want to follow the Roman Catolic Church in Rome. Same goes when Martin Luther constitute the Lutherian Church. Bibles lost their holyness because they're too many bible and this book keep changing and being update by religious authorities. This shows that Bible is not the 'complete' guideline for our life.

Unlike Islam, they only used one Holy Book which is Islam although they have different sect such as Sunni, Shia, Sufi & etc..

They have the dumbest rules and "sins". Example: Masturbating. Sorry, G-d, but heaven is gonna be empty soon if every masturbator goes to hell. I just don't really like Christianity at all. Especially because of the Holocaust. I mean, every damn christian, except for a few good ones, just did nothing while we starved and we burnt IN PITS and our ashes were sold to farmers as fertilizer. You know what? The Jews had the Holocaust, the blacks had slavery, so... WHEN IS IT TIME FOR THE CHRISTIANS TO BE KILLED AND MADE INTO SLAVES? The bad part of me is just waiting...:)

Sorry, but you have to admit...

My brain has the capacity for rational and abstract tought.

I can't get through a conversation without belly laughing in their faces.

If there is a God and he needs to be praised all the time by Christian people and whomever. That would be hell to me.
Bring on the brimstone and fire. Keep me away from them.

I watched The 700 Club for 10 minutes on day. Hell will hold no secrets for me. (If it existed!)

Did I give enough reasons?

You are mistaken. You are not guilty of a law you know nothing about:

John 9 (NIV):
Spiritual Blindness
35Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"
36"Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him."

37Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you."

38Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.

39Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind."

40Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, "What? Are we blind too?"

41Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

Romans 7:7 (NIV):

7What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet."

Please read the Bible before making any final decisions about Christ.

In addition to all the reasons you've given above, I would not convert because of the massive welter of evidence against the existence of god.
Also the christians on this site who try to ram their ideas down your throat, even when you ask a question that is totally unrelated to religion, are probably the best advertisement for not converting that there is. I mean who would oluntarily become that sort of person.
