HIV positive means that you have been infected with the virus.
AIDS is the full blown systematic stage of the disease.
People can be HIV positive for years, and with proper medication management, not experience any of the physical symptoms.

HIV+ means the virus has entered one's body. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) doesn't directly kill a person. What it does is to weaken the immune system. It does so by destroying the T helper cells or CD4+ cells (certain kind of WBCs). The function of these cells is to stimulate the B lymphocytes (another type of WBC, which produce antibodies, which in turn attach themselves to the foreign infecfetious agents, so the other type of WBCs can identify & kill them).
But, all this takes time to happen, since in the early stages the virus multiplies very slowly without being noticed by the body. It's only when the CD4+ count falls below 500/microliter that the symptoms--regularly occuring infections--start appearing because of impaired immune function. THIS STAGE IS KNOWN AS AIDS. It may take a few (2-7, even upto 10 in rare cases) years to develop from the time of infection. There some very few people (probably of African origin) who never developed this stage.

HIV is the virus that causes a breakdown in the immune system. Over time the disease process of the virus causes other body systems to fail and become weak causing a diagnosis of AIDS. AIDS actually isn't an illness, it's the name given to a time in the breakdown process. Once the body begins to become weaker and it's defense mechanisms begin to fail there are many illnesses that can occur. Receiving an AIDS diagnosis means that the body cannot fight off these effects. There are several ways a person can receive an AIDS diagnosis either through a low T-Cell count or because they have become ill with certain other illnesses. The list is long. Try Web-MD or the US Dept of Health for a list of these.

A positive HIV test result means that you are infected with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), the virus that causes AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). Being infected with HIV does not mean that you have AIDS right now. However, if left untreated, HIV infection damages a person’s immune system and can progress to AIDS.

nicely, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a pandemic and AIDS (received Immune deficiency Syndrome). i do no longer recognize a lot about it, yet AIDS is after someone with HIV will change into ill with different circumstances (eg. tuberculosis) and then has AIDS because any unmarried condition that is gotten smaller with the help of someone who's HIV functional can set this into finished blown AIDS and in turn kill the fellow because of immunity or lack there of.

A person who has AIDS is definitely HIV positive.....but its not necessary that a person who is HIV positive has AIDS.
AIDS = Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome
So AIDS is a Syndrome and unless the syndrome is visible in any of the many ways that it can be...........the person is not having AIDs even if he is carrying the HIV virus in him.

when a person gets infected with Human immuno deficiency virus(HIV),one is called HIV positive. And the last stage of HIV infection is refered to as AIDS(Acquired immuno deficiency syndrome). In AIds the count of the T-helper cells goes below 500 per micro litre, and a number of oppotunistic infections take place due to decrease in theT-helper white blood cells and these infections later take one's life.
