The cross comes from a very pagan Egyptian culture the worship of Tammuz. That pre dated Jesus and the Romans didn't hang criminals on crosses as the movie shows. But an upright stake.
It has worship in almost every ancient culture.India, syria persia
It goes along with nature worship and sex worshipers.
Symbolizeing the joining of the male with the female.
By the middle of the 3rd century had departed from certain features of the Christian faith. In order to increase the prestige of the apostate ecclesiastical system pagans were received into the churches apart from generateing new faith and were permitted largely to retain their pagan signs and symbols.
To make it seem more christian the church adopted it to stand for the cross of christ. So I doubt if it will keep out evil spirits since it came from pagan orgin.
Similiar to the Christmas tree which came from Sun worshipers.
and they to worshiped sex, nature and the natural world around them. In the winter when it got cold and things died he had to be appeased. So the evergreen was the only thing around living so they decorated it and put balls on it and the Sun God on the top.
They partied and had orgies and drank themselves stupid and in a few months there came summer. when they became christians they were afraid not to do that. some told them summer wouldn't come without it. so it to was adopted into Christianity. Those were ways to get more converts.

Yes i do.The reason for that is this.Ten years ago.Our house burned to a crisp. The only recognizable things were of christian in nature. The entire wall around our wedding crucifix was destroyed except for a two foot area around the crucifix. It makes you wonder after seeing that.So now for peace of mind we hand a cross on the door so we will have protection and a safe way to get out in case of another fire.Have a good day! I do not hang a cross over y door and I had not heard that it keeps evil spiritsout. I believe that my faith In god and Jesus Christ keep away evil spiritd. I believe I can cal on the name of Jesus and order them to be gone and it will happen. I like to collect angel figurines I think they ae pretty but I put no more stock in them than that. I am worried to put more than that inot them would lead to a formof worship of them and God warns against that. But I do believe in angels and evil spirits but most of all I believe in God our Heavenly Father adn Jesus Christ His Son and our Saviour.

I keep evil out by resisting evil. I don't need a cross to remind me of that.

I have large crosses over my exterior doors and smaller crosses over each interior door. They are a constant reminder of Christ crucified in all my comings and goings. Helps keep my mind where it should be, and gives me comfort. God bless you. ~Nisa

I do it out of tradition. My grandmother was from Ireland and it was her custom. Growing up we MOVED a lot. No matter where we were my mom always had a crucifix over the front door. I think of it more of a blessing than keeping evil sprits away. BTW in my Aunts and grandmother house it was just the front door.....not every door in the house.
