I am a ginger and have always had names made about my hair. But then I also had names about my freckles a lot too. And I was always smiling or laughing so had nicknames about that. Funnily enough though many people then realised that my name Rosie summed up all of these things!
Sunshine is a nice one. my friends call me gingerella which I think is funny! I am quite frequently referred to as 'the ginge' or gingey.
I can't think of any of the other names I've had in the past. Some have them were kind but most were offencive. I hope you help you kid to have a sense of humour about their hair colour, nothing worse than a ginger who can't take a joke!
The worst thing about being ginger is the fiery red head comments. Apparently you cannot have an opinion or be a bit annoyed when you have ginger hair without someone saying something about how you are irrational due to your hair colour!! So annoying! Actually that's not as bad as sun burn that's the worst part of having ginger hair.
The best thing is that I love my hair colour, it suits me and is interesting and rare. I have people approach me to tell me how amazing my hair is!?!? I find this embarrassing, but for every ginger hater out there there seems to be a ginger lover!!

Keep an eye out for the Catherine Tate show. It's repeated so often that most people know all the sketches off by heart, and one of them is about ginger-haired people. (Starting again, 7pm weekdays, UKTV Gold - 109 on Sky)

Doesn't your 'ginger kid" have a normal name like normal children? Do you have issue with this?
Why not just call you child by his/her first name it would be alot easier for everyone especially the child this way it wouldn't give them a complex :)

HI THERE your child is`nt ginger kid he is most probably model material! If anyone calls him such names then they are only jealous! I always wanted 2 have a red headed child cause the are stunning! you ARE A LUCKY PARENT SO U ARE xx

I some times get called mahogany head and that doesn't bother me but I really don't think you should give them a nickname they are going to have to put up with enough comments from other people and could probably do without you doing it to!!
