Use a heat gun to melt the adhesive, and pry up. Very difficult process, you may just want to cover the old laminate.

Yes you can but it is a lengthy process and usually doesn't yeild good results. Unless it is an antique I wouldn't bother. If you must... a heat gun may work, but the easiest way is a belt sander. It will go thru laminate and adhesive to the wood beneath. If you go this route take it to a professional to be sanded off then finish sand and stain yourself.... A belt sander misused would be worse than the laminate.

I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but I've seen lights placed beneath a glass table to illuminate it through a tablecloth. (Used as part of the decoration for a party.)
