A few years ago, I had a badly cracked an infected tooth. I went to have it fixed and they crowned the wrong tooth, which trapped infection inside. I had to go back and they had to do a root canal by drilling a hole in the crown, then filling it. I have had major sensitivities with this tooth now, and I noticed that my gums around it are black! Tell me this isn't as bad as it seems....HELP!

Sounds more like a cosmetic problem and an inexperience dentist. In my opinion, you most likely have a porcelain fused to metal crown (porcelain outside, metal inside). Those type of crowns tend to have a very fake-looking opacity, and they will tend to get a black line at the gum line after a few years. This line may not show when the crown is first placed but shows later, as the gum recedes. But porcelain fused to metal is substantially stronger than the all porcelain crown. So talk to your dentist and maybe convince him to make you a new crown for free; after all, the dentist crowned the wrong tooth!!

I have also had a root canal on my tooth. The gums will be grayish black around that area because it is full of metal. Do not be alarmed!

Go to the dentist though because after five years I had to have my redone. My new dentist made it look much better, you can barely tell.

Don't worry, but do go to a reputable dentist in your area.

Oooh. That's a story out of my nightmares! Sorry to hear of your troubles, but yes, black gums sound pretty bad. Make an appointment right now! Preferrably with a different dentist.

If you have been having sensitivity with this tooth, you need to see your dentist about it. As for the black line around this tooth, it is most likely due to the metal sub-structure that is underneath the crown. It's very common for that to happen. Still, go see your dentist about this tooth. Good luck

Yes, it can be drying, dead blood. Pain is due to the inflamation, swelling putting pressure on the nerves. Drink some warm, not hot green tea. The warmth is soothing. Green tea has antibacterial properties, can desensitize the tender nerves, has an anti-inflammatory affect which can help stop the pain and bleeding and internally is an antioxidant and immune system booster. Do not drink too hot which can start the bleeding. Calcium also can help as it calms the nerves. Hope this helps. Best of luck!
