The ways to strengthen your relationship with God are simple, but can be hard to follow through on. You have to be consistent with the following things...

1. Read your Bible every day. If you really want to strengthen your relationship with God fast, read it day and night as the Psalmist did. (You could study or read a chapter or two in the morning [keeping a journal of observations and prayers], and read a psalm before bed, for example.)

2. Pray throughout the day about anything and everything, and worship Him through songs.

3. If you don't have good Christian fellowship, you need to find some. If possible, join a small group. It can be SO encouraging. If you don't have a church that provides this for you, I may be able to help you find one.

If you do these things, you will feel closer to God. If you don't, or if you slack, you will feel like you're drifting away.

May you have a close relationship with God and use His strength when the dark side opposes you because of the power you can have through God.

Love & Blessings to you.

Realize that Hebrews 13 5. Let your conduct be without covetousness, and be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you.''
6. So we may boldly say: "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?''

Know that just like a husband may not always FEEL married, if he is legally married then fact overrides the feeling. God said he would never leave you. Dont let your lack of Feeling make you believe a lie. Just like your relationship with your wife should not be based on feelings alone, our relationship with God should not be based on feelings or emotions.

Know that this distant feeling can be a tool of the Devil to make you feel alone and abandoned by God. It can also be due to our own guilt and regret causing us to feel unworthy of God's companionship.

Get in the Bible and let God talk to you and show you how much he loves you and wants to be with you actively daily. Talk to him daily like you would a close friend and companion.

Also spend time in worship and praise to God. God inhabits the praises of his people.

Play the ABC game - name a charicteristic or fact about God or Christ for each letter of the Alphabet...
A = God is All Mighty
B = God is Beautiful
C = God is Charity or Love
D = God is my Deliverer etc.

Or you could even change it over to What God is to Me

God is Always there
God is Better then a Father to me
God is my calming force

You get the idea.

By the time you are done you will feel much better.

If I feel distant from God I remind myself that God did not move. God is constant, the rock. Distance from God therefore means I moved. Strengthening a relationship with God is really no different than strengthening a realtionship with anyone else. It takes time together and communication. Communication with God for me takes three forms, prayer, meditation, reading. If I spend all of my time with God praying I find my relationship suffers because I am doing all the talking. Meditation is when I am listening. Reading is learning about God's instructions for me and learning about the character of God. When I am taking sufficient time to do all three of those things and submitting my will to God's will, I feel pretty close to God. A truth I learned long ago that has served me well is that the only one who can put anything between me and God is me. So if there is some block between me and God I know who put it there. The way to get rid of the block is to examine my actions and motives to discover the nature of the block. One final comment. I used to waste a lot of time "seeking God's will" when in reallity I already knew God's will. I just didn't want to follow it. I have found that when I find myself in a "struggle" to find God's will for me, I am really just arguing with God trying to convince God to see my point. What a waste of time. Want to feel close to God? Trust him.

Reading the bible, going to church to sing and worship, praying, volunteer to help those in need all will help you feel closer to God. If you don't feel close to God, it's because you've over looked Him for awhile, maybe letting your life get in the way. Concentrate on Him again and try to live your life for Him by reaching out to others and praying. God Bless You and no matter what God will always love you and he's always there for you.

I find that I feel closest to God when I 'do'. When I am volunteering in soup kitchens and helping out in other ways. because I feel like I am doing God's work. "Whatsoever you do for the least of my brothers, that you do unto me." i am not thinking this the whole time, it is just the feeling I walk away with.

Also, when I make up my own prayers rather than just following along with what others are saying and doing. I talk to God just like I would talk to a friend.

Keep asking these questions. That helps too. You will get your answers eventualy. They just sort of arrive in your heart.

Yes, read the Bible daily, go to an Sunday Bible Study group at your church where you can meet other Christians who can lift you up in prayer when you struggle and help you with advice if they have been through what your going through. Also pray, God really does listen to our prayers, there is a lot of power in prayer but be ready for God's answer, even if it's not what you want because he knows what is best for us. Trust him always.

I have found that whenever I start realizing that I am not real close to God, that it is me that moved away.

Most of the time, it has to do with raising children and running around constantly getting them here and there. All of a sudden I realize that I feel alone.

I know then, that it is time for me to get back to basics and purposefully set more time aside to be alone with God. Find a "secret place". This is just a place, like your bathroom or bedroom where you will not be interupted and can spend time alone in communication with God.

Sometimes it helps to bring your bible into your secret place with you, to help reestablish communication.

We all tend to get very involved with just making it through life with all our obligations and responsibilities. They are easy attention getters. Just remember to take time for you alone with God and you will feel yourself walking back towards the very place you left him.

May God bless you and keep you.

Learn as much about Him as you can. Pray often. Join a study or discussion group. Let Him know that you want to be closer to Him.

Pray every morning and every evening. Praise His name when you begin prayer, then thank Him for HIs blessings, pray for forgiveness of your sins, pray for the needs of others, then your own needs. Read scripture daily, even for only a few minutes on your lunch break at work or on the bus. Don't miss church.

Always pray in Jesus' name.

God Bless!
