Catholic. Protestant. If you want to know how many different kinds of protestants there are, google it. It is in the thousands. That is due (in my opinion) to too much "I don't like this so instead of reform, I'll just start my own church." But that's neither here nor there. Anyhow, the point is no one here will know them all by heart.
P.S. Regarding Thin's generalization below, I know that is not true. Catholicism, for one, acknowledges that God is found in people who are not Catholic... and even people who are not Christians. They acknowledge the complexities of the universe and of humanity. If anyone doesn't believe this, I would not be surprised. But you can ask a priest or look it up in the Catechism.
As for everything being based on "the word of God," I can't really address that because it is too vague. Is he referring to only the words in the bible? Or to a broader definition? Anyway, my suggestion is to look up and research serious religious questions for yourself. Mostly, you will get nothing but mounds of misinformation here (with a few nuggets of truth strew about).

There is not enough space here for that. After Catholicism you have the multitude of diferent protestant faiths. Not to mention the different sub-categories of protestant faiths like Baptist, Lutheran, and such. It goes to show though that Christians are very fragmented.

These denominations are churches of men, not the church of Christ whom He build on his name.
Jesus Christ did not named his church, because it bears his name. It was build geographically such as (the church in Jerusalem, Antioch, perganum, etc) Whenever there is a believer (christian) the church is visible.

Every person could be a denomination of he only persuades one other to join him and chances are that person would still disagree with him on some issues.

There are currently 33,830 different Christian denominations and counting.
They share two things in common: They all think they base their beliefs on the teachings of Christ, and they all believe they are the ONLY true path to salvation. LOL

Oh wow... that'd take all day. I think I once heard it was in the thousands - or at least in the hundreds.
Consider the point of view of every single denomination: There are two denominations:
Us - the inarguable 'truth'
All the others - heathens.

Each local church is it's own authority. They have their own takes on baptism, how a worship service is conducted, but hold the central truth of Salvation and the Divinity of Jesus. We (christians) are all brothers and sisters. We are not divided on these important issues. That's why we see each other as christians, part of the whole body of Christ..
