I am a Christian, and I think he had some of the traits of Jesus. By all means he was not Jesus, but none of us are. We must ask ourselves who of us hasn't lied or cheated. A sin is a sin in God's eyes. If we lied to our parents as children or cheated at a game with friends it is all a sin and is no worse than the person that says he cheated on his wife. Only in our eyes are these different. Ghandi once said he would have been a Christian if he had ever met one that followed what the Christian said he believed in. So I guess we can thank our own hipocrosy for him not being a Christian. Sadly this is an all too common problem. But no one is perfect! Thus why Jesus dies for our sins because without him we would have never been good enough to get into heaven!

Every good Christian knows this Ryan, John 3:16, no one comes to your father but through Jesus.
What does charachter have to do with anything?
Ghandi cheated on his wife. Without a savior - Jesus, Christians believe he will go to hell. And educated Christians who actually read the Bible believe that Ghandi will be judged according to his works as we read in Revelation 20:11-13, and then cast into the lake of fire.

It's not the religious name a person goes by that makes him Christlike or not. It's having a character like Christ's that makes him Christlike.
"By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35

This will sound odd, but: Whenever I think of Christ or Gandhi, I think of the same word.
Ruthless.
Anyone so firmly focused on Doing The Right Thing, requires ruthlessness. How else do you cope with the knowledge of all the division and death you've caused?

Scriptures talk of people having a form of Godliness but denying the power thereof! Such was the case with Gandhi he died without receiving the power (Holy Ghost) the Spirit of Christ. A mistake made by alot of religious zealots.

He was racist. He spent considerable time in Africa and wrote a number of articles expressing the vews that native Africans were inferior to whites and indians.
So, if by Christ-like in character you mean "perfect and wonderful and all that and a bag of chips" The answer is no.

Yes he was. The "Christ" is a level of thinking, not a person. Once you achieve it, your 'third eye' is open and you can see the big picture. It comes from unconditional loving AND thinking, not from religious beliefs.

his character was similar, but his Actions were nowhere near. Jesus would never starve himself to control the actions of A government, Gandhi starved himself to stop A war, Gandhi's action was Against the teachings of the bible, we Christians Are to support and obey our governments and submit to their Authority, that doesn't mean As a christian we are A doormat, but we do submit to their Authority as long AS it does not interfere with our faith..
another thing is Gandhi thought that Christianity was Anti violence, he really never read much in the bible, or just never paid attention to it
Jesus encouraged protecting ourselves, he encouraged someone to own a sword
Luke 22:36 And he said unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet; and he that hath none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword.
Jesus was also clear that the christian would be surrounded by violence, And hatred, and would go through persecution for their faith
Mat 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.
Mat 10:34 Think not that I came to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Mat 10:35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law:
Mat 10:36 and a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
Mat 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Gandhi on the other hand promoted Peace And harmony look the other Way At our differences in faith and views of religion, politics, personal feelings..
so in one way yes he was similar to Jesus, but All in all, not really.. he was ecumenical And sad to say this cause i know it'll offend people, but... Gandhi, when he died, stood before Jesus And was judged by Jesus And is burning in hell At this very moment because he died in his sin. but that was his choice. he could have repented [ forsaken And turned And continually turned from his sin] Asked to be forgiven, and place All his faith in Christ And what he did on the cross.. but he didn't, so therefore he is now burning in hell.. And that's not my opinion, its what God has said in his word
