Why not visit your local animal shelter and look at the animals there. Besides having some VERY cute mutts who are small, shorthaired, and low maintenance, there are also purebred dogs. Please consider giving one of these dogs a home. Ask you Mom if you can go and see them. She may fall in love with one of them, too.

Pugs are known for having a friendly personality and good with children. They're small, (less dog food), they're short haired, (less mess), and they tend to be high energy (so they love to play).
The same can be said about chi's but they tend to be a little more withdrawn so the pug is known as a better kid's dog.
Over all, a pug would be a great family dog.

Yorkies are neat, too. But, some of the best dogs I've ever had were just mutts. The fact is they're healthier. Pure bred dogs are prone to all sorts of maladies, and can run up quite a vet bill. Drop by you local animal shelter and look over the dogs there. Often you'll find a dog just the age, size and description you're looking for, and you can take it home for the price of its shots.

I breed pugs, they are wonderful with children and just about anyone else, they are much more "sturdy" built than a chiwaw and will not get hurt as easy when playing with your children. Take a look at our page titled "pug facts" at http://www.mistymountainkennels for all kinds of information on Pugs.

Why not visit your close by animal shelter and appear at the animals there. Besides getting some VERY adorable mutts who tend to be small, shorthaired, and decreased maintenance, there tend to be as well purebred dogs. Please think about giving 1 of these dogs a home. Ask you Mom if you are able to go and see them. She may drop in adore with 1 of them, too.

I have a pug. I thought I would give you the pros and cons I have found with him and let you make your own choice.
1. He loves everyone
2. He's clever
3. He is easy to read, meaning I can tell what he wants ( I guess it shows just how clever he is) .
Some examples:
When he runs out of food or water he will bring his empty bowl to me and drop it at my feet.
When he wants to play he will bring his toy to me and stick it in my hand.
When he wants to sleep by my bed at night he will bring his own bed and set it on the floor next to mine.
When he wants to go for a walk he will get his leash and bring it to me.
Cons:
1. He demands alot of attention. He wants to be noticed at all times.
2. He sheds alot.
3. Fortunatley for me he has had no health problems, but many other people I know have had to take their pugs in for surgery to correct their breathing problems.
My own observations with him tell me that a pug is best suited to a large family that has alot of time to devote to them. They are not a one master kind of dog, their demand for attention would run one owner ragged, in my own humble opinion If you decide to get a pug, make sure that you will be committed to spending lots of time with him and be prepared to have a devoted freind for many years :)
Oh and my pug, Stewie, says "Hi Everyone"!

I have pug, and I really love it, my pug love my children so much, and really low maintenance, basically they accept all food we offered to them, dry dog food, canned dog food, and also raw food. And also they so clever, I just need 1 week to train my 8 weeks pug for toilet training and it's work like miracle.
First of all I have same cases like you, one of my family member dis-agree to adopt pug, but know everybody love my pug.

bichons are great cuz they love kids and don't shed. However they do require a lot of grooming. (daily brushing and cuts every 3 mol or so) Why not look online at petfinder.com and also at your local humane society. You can leave a list of breeds you are interested in at the shelter and they can call ya and let ya know when what you are looking for is available.
