Cats pull at their claws with their teeth to remove the outer husk from the claw; I suppose it a catty version of a manicure. All cats do it, but watch your cat when he does this- if he is nibbling his toes as well, and doing it a lot, he might have a foot irritation, in which case a vet is needed, or he may have an allergy.

It is normal, cats shed the outer layer of their nails and he/she is just trying to pull it off. You may notice what looks like an entire claw on the floor, but when you look at it up close, its hollow.

He has dirt embedded in the fur between the pads of his feet. Its the only way to clean them.
Try picking all the larger dirt out for him. Its easier for you,you have that opposable thumb. Seeds and thorns are sometimes in my cats paws too.

when the claws get to long to be comfortable for the cat, he will try to shorten them heself. Take it to a groomer to have the nails cut.

Does he have a scratching post? if he doesn't it would be worth investing in one. Clip his nails back if you know how, or get someone to do it for you and make sure the quick is a lightish pink, if it looks bruised he may need to go to the vet.

Just means nails are getting longer might try to trim them or use a nail file and file them down a bit. Or get a scratching log so that they can do it themself.

he could be having problems getting his claws to shed (yes they do shed an outter skin) or it might be a fungus in his toes not the claws themselves
