Maggots are common in your garden!? Throw that dead cat away man.

If you have already eaten all the squirrels and snails, ants and bugs and you are still hungry then I suppose you could eat maggots. Fry them up with a little butter or spread them straight on to toast.

Possible if they're still littered with the bacteria that the flies that laid the eggs carried. It's illegal now but there's an Italian delicacy where cheese is left out in a cool damp environment but not properly sealed so that flies can lay there eggs and maggots hatch and eat there way into the cheese. It's still sold on the black market and the maggots remain. The idea is to eat the cheese with the maggots intact.YYYYIIIICCCCKKKK.
The maggots will be killed instantly by your stomach acid so you don't have to worry about their maturation into adult flies.

Like eating anything else, it really depends on where its been.
Maggots, when clean, are pretty good sources of protein.

However, maggots usually feed on rotting things, and of course
that means they get covered in bacteria etc present during
decomposition.

All animals (humans, dogs, cows, chickens, bugs, everything)
carry around their own selection of bacteria and viri, some
of which might be dangerous if you eat them.

When you cook things, it tends to kill the bacteria and
other parasites which is a major reason we cook things.
If we didn't, the things in our food could end up starting
to eat us.

True, if we ate live things, our stomac acid would kill
many of the bacteria and parasites, but not necessarily all.

If you are going to eat maggots, clean them and cook them.

Most worms and larvae are edible, though better deep fried. I think if I were going to eat them frying in boiling oil would remove any bacteria from the soil.
I have eaten fried earthworms and grasshoppers. I liked the grasshoppers best. I don't want maggots, but think they are harmless if they aren't off dog poop.

Maggots are full of protein. Most insects and grubs are edible if you are that way inclined.
